Reefer Jacket

Excited Mid

New Member
Does anyone happen to have a reefer jacket size 40 that they might be willing to sell?
I used the search function and I've seen that I would need to get an enlisted one of NEX, which I don't have access to yet as a starting 4/C MIDN, and alter it myself. I'd much rather purchase a complete one from all the guys who said they don't use theirs anymore, so would anyone like to sell me one? Please PM me...Thanks!

You should get one in your uniform issue....

Where in NJ are you from? Trenton here.

You'd think they'd be in the initial issue, but units are generally cheap. I go to school in a place that's "parts falling off" cold and the warmest jacket everyone is issued is the Ike.

I ordered mine enlisted during 4/c year and then sent it out to be modified. You should have NEX access by the end of October at the latest; don't worry too much about it.

Can't wear Ikes with SDBs...some units issue the all-weather trenchcoats, but those are total crap. If you want a reefer, grab one. You might not be able to wear it in formation, but if you're standing outside in that kind of weather your BN staff need a head check anyway.

Don't be that guy.

Is it bad juju to wear one before SWOdom? Please. You remind me of the studs who won't wear the leather jacket when it's 30* out.

NROTC units ARE cheap. The Ike jacket sucks balls and the all-weather coat is even worse. Guys in my battalion bought reefers and bridgecoats and no one gave them shit because they're warm and they look legit. And if someone does break your balls, fuck 'em---they'll be the ones freezing their nuts off.

Its not bad juju to wear it before SWO-dom. It is an authorized uniform item for all officer, chiefs and officer candidates. Just make sure you know how to wear it.

I wasn't making a bad voodoo argument (a la brown boots and leather jackets). Just saying that if 100 other guys can stand the cold, you can too.

Take the cash and spend it on a constructive hobby of your choice ;)

You can construct your own reefer. Go to eBay and navigate to the following section:

Collectibles > Militaria > Current Militaria (2001-Now) >

Search for "peacoat", find size, and purchase.

Call up Vanguard (1-800-221-1264) and purchase (7) 40-line (1 inch) buttons and replace the black buttons on the peacoat.

You will also have to sew two loops of fabric onto each of the shoulder areas of the peacost so that your shoulder boards can be secured to the coat.

Ugh. NROTC and it's overwhelming desire to take "uniformity" to a retarded level. It always blows my mind that people get so bent if one guy wants to have a jacket on. Maybe that one guy is colder than everyone else.

It always makes me laugh a little when I'd reflect on my ROTC unit's desire for uniformity when standing in "formation" for quarters in the fleet. Pilots and AWs in flightsuits. Some Os wearing ballcaps, some wearing piss-cutters. Maybe someone in AWGs. Chiefs and LDOs in khakis or NWUs. Sailors in NWUs, dress uniforms, or coveralls all at the same time. And NO ONE cared. It was amazing.

If you're cold and like the look of the reefer go for it. Both thhe Ike and the all weather coat look like shit. The reefer looks a lot sharper. And if that matters, spend the cash.

On a related note, I can't for the life of me figure out why the Navy doesn't have an authorized trench coat. The Marines have one and it looks very sharp and professional.

We have the Overcoat (a/k/a/, Bridge Coat). I bought mine, used, from an AirWarrior on the board :D

Yeah, I know. But something that isn't a giant sponge when it rains sure would be nice. That's why you have trench coats. Not that I'd ever wear it, but it would be nice to have the option.
