Know we beat "what % gets Jets" to death.

But once get do get jets, how do you choose between RAG Lemoore and Rag Oceana? Which is in more demand for the Strike Fighter NFO?

Does anyone know?

Thanks.

No offense, but do you know or are you guessing?

I met a Lt(jG) in Norfolk over the weekend, said he was in F 18 RAG in Oceana. Had NFO wings. Setting, (family) there was no reason for him to lie, but though it interesting.

I do not know the exact answer, but here is some of the big picture. The RAG in Oceana is mostly doing the F-14 transitions to the SuperHornet and Lemoore is taking most of the new students. Now I am sure that some students do go to Oceana too, but this is the way for the majority of them. I know 2 guys transitioning from the S-3 community and they have to go to Lemoore because of this. I hope this helps a bit!

For the record, I'm not guessing.

Thanks UI. I meant no offense, I had heard same thing, that Cat I's would not go for several years, yet there he was.

All CAT 1's, and that includes S-3 transitions, are going to be going to Lemoore for quite a while. I talked with an instructor getting ready to go to 106 today and he said it will be strictly tomcat transitions for quite a while. Possible the JG could be in a tomcat transition squadron. Plenty of JG's in VFA 211 transitioning out here right now.

This is incorrect. There are guys in VT-86 Strike/Fighter who have orders to VFA-106 this fall. Granted, this is brand spanking new, but -106 DOES have its doors open to newbies.

... Granted ...

Stand corrected, the JG's dad (Four Stars) can pull strings, the JG was not a RIO, shiny new NFO wings.

Thank T&B55. Keep hearing that 106 is taking newbies. Any other info you have, I appreciate, although I hate to be a pest.

Related: The locals in VA Beach seems to think there soon will be an influx of RAG newbies from Pensacola??

Fresno? Lemoore?

Well okay, first is always good. But really want to go back to Fesno, own a ranch (ranchette) near Fesno. So in order of preference: Fresno, then Lemoore, then Oceana, but the commute for the latter would be is a killer. :)

at Fresno.

Yes, know, but actually not much of anything in Fresno. But NAS Lemoore is whole bunch closer to Fresno than Oceana is to Fresno. So when you asked my interest in going to VA Beach (NAS Oceana, think), tried to express my interest, secondary of course to going to the F-18 RAG, anywhere, was in going someplace close to Fresno, and NAS Lemoore is close to Fresno. Sorry for the split infinitives.

OK, to answer the original question... ;)

It's pretty much like anything else with PCS orders. You turn in a preference sheet, they'll try to accomodate you as best they can, depending on how many slots they have at -122 and -106. If you have a really good reason why you have to go to one coast or the other (I'd imagine owning a place is one), they'll go the extra mile to work with you.

As far as which is in more demand? Couldn't tell you... my class will be like the 3rd or 4th which even has the Oceana option, and with only a handful of Navy guys per class, it's hard to gauge interest. I'd personally rather go to VA beach, but if you want to be the one to jump on the grenade and go to Lemoore, I won't talk you out of it ;)

UINavy- are you in the RAG now? I'd love to hear the gouge on how that goes-- big mystery...
