OK, to answer the original question... ;)

Thanks for taking the time, I know how valuable your time is. Know well of needs of service etc, and do understand and appreciate that. Another reason for Lemoore (close to Fresno), is the Atsugi option. Would like to go to Atsugi.

Ahh .. When do you get winged? Would so much like to have some information on Advanced Strike/fighter; after selection.

If you have the time, maybe will shut me up?

Thanks again.

QUESTION:
There is a lot of talk here about where you-all "want" to go .....

Do you-guys now preference "location"??? Isn't "Location, Location, Location" the purview of Realtors ?? I always thought your "preferences" for assignment out of the Naval Air Training Command (or RAG) were the product of :

The best grades out of flight school ...

gets aircraft (maybe -- needs of the service & timing [NOST]) ...
gets coast and/or RAG choice (maybe -- NOST thing again) ...
gets squadron assignment (maybe -- NOST again) ...
gets "location" (maybe -- NOST -- squadrons change home-ports and/or AirWings/ships)

Is it different "now"? Glory Hallelujah ! Or am I missing something .... ??

p.s. "accomodate you"?? Let me let you in on a little Navy secret .... Officer Detailers hate your guts --- Why, you ask ??? Because, on occasion, they are detailers because they "dropped the ball" somewhere along the journey and got assigned --- by a detailer :devil_125 --- to be a detailer :icon_cryi . They are "staff", you are "operators" ... it brings out the worst in some people ... :icon_rage

Fleet squadron isn't assigned until the end of the RAG, however.

Right ... like I said, but not too eloquently.

It was kind of a "logical" progression, free-association melange of harmony, light, sharing, caring, gestalt kind of thing ... never mind. I AM a product of the '60's ... :icon_rast

A4s-- Aware of how the detailing process works. I was referring specifically to the RAG assignment, not the operational squadrons (I'm not THAT jaded!)

My understanding (disclaimer: I may well be talking out of my a$$ here) is that VT-86 owns our RAG assignments. -106 needs X number, -122 needs Y number, and they mix and match as appropriate. Again, this information is all secondhand, I'm not quite far enough along to be worrying TOO much about the mechanics, but this is how it was explained to me...

BTW, what does NOST stand for? Needs Of Service, The? ;)

cindy- No probs. I'm right now running through radar intercepts... they say I'm supposed to be winged end of April but... uhhh... my personal prediction is about a month later.

I was going to post a summary of flight school for Strike/Fighter guys... but I've still got a little ways to go, and they're talking about changing the syllabus somewhat within the next few weeks, so I don't want to put up outdated info. But again, IM me with any questions and maybe I can unveil some of the mystery...

That's O.K. Wherever you want to talk out of --- but please don't talk too loudly ....

NOST ?? Naaaa, it's just something I made up in the other post to "shorthand" :

Needs Of the Service & Timing .... I just didn't want to type it 3-4 times. I'm old. :sleep_125

A4's... the only thing I CAN select is Hornet/Superhornet. EA-6B's are still out there, but a lot of us are restricted from them. Something about the ejection seat, but no one really understands what in particular. So the only think left is choosing your location!

My GOD!! You poor boys !!! I cannot believe the hardship and deprivation you must be going through !!! To be able to "only" select F'inA-18's !!! It's almost like --- THEY ARE SELECTING YOU --- don't you think? Actually, I think it's GREAT !! Like someone said, NOST !!

FA-18%2001.jpg
HOOOOAH !!! :jump_125:

GO-FAST! WIND IN YOUR HAIR ! BUGS ON YOUR TEETH ! BOOMERS !! FLAT-HATTING !!
Whew! I think I should sit down and have a drink .... wait, I already am :icon_drin .

I can only say one thing: CONGRATULATIONS.

Actually, we had a similar situation back "in the day" when SITTING HEIGHT was a determinant in what aircraft (read: ejection seat) you were assigned. Guys were actually stuffing newspaper (now we know what that's worth !) into their U-TROW to increase their "sitting height". No joke.

What do I always say? Check out my "AirWarriors signature" that follows .....

I can't speak for other communities, but the Prowler detailer and RO are king-maker jobs.

Agreed: and even more so if you can "place" a senior "mentor/protector" ahead of you and then write yourself orders to that unit when you roll ... oh, life is good. :icon_mi_1 But, I suppose that doesn't happen anymore ....?? :icon_wink

What I was thinking was (in the day) we frequently had detailers from -- who knows where -- writing orders for -- who knows what. Some of them were VERY unhappy cowboys in their jobs and the results were often, predictably, not pretty. I didn't get screwed, but it wasn't for lack of a detailer "not trying".
