Retest?

I'm going for Intel Officer. When I took the ASTB (just once, form 4) I got a 50 OAR. I have a GPA of 3.9. My recruiter is recommending that I stick with that score and not risk getting a lower score (he told me that 50 is the cut off for a "competitive" score).
Anyone care to share their opinion on this?

Thanks.

This question has been hashed out a million times. Use the search function in the future or just read through several of these threads.

You can either submit once, see what happens and retake if you don't get it, or you can retake now. FWIW, I was not selected in November '10 with an OAR of 52 (my GPA was a bit lower than yours though).

Given the current board climate (boards and slots are few and far between), I would just retake it now if I were you. You never know when you're actually going to get seen again by a board if you get rejected once. Study your butt off and shoot for 60+ (but don't freak out if you only get a 55 or above, think long and hard before using your third try if you are in between 55-60).

Also, this is strictly opinion. You have to make the choice yourself.

To echo brenbuck, I would retake it. Although you have a really competitive GPA, I would study and try to get a more competitive OAR too. With the economy the way it is, the Navy isn't exactly hurting for RL officers. So if you go in with the highest scores you can get, the more it'll help. Study this entire ASTB section of the forum, I got a 69 OAR just by studying what other members have suggested and a lot of other people have scored extremely high by using this board and using the study habits that got you the 3.9 GPA. Good luck!

Thanks for the opinions. I appreciate it.
I was planning on retaking the test (the person overseeing the test gave me the impression that a 52 was needed). But when my recruiter and I discussed it, his main point was that he didn't want to see me inadvertently disqualify myself.

(And in future, I will be sure to make use of the search function ;) )
