Return of Turboprops to CAS role?

As a Marine grunt in the late 70's I used to love watching OV-10's work out. I always wanted to fly one. They had rockets and that's all I cared about.

A poor man's (a very poor man's) A-10

I bet this guy would do a job there too..I'm also a little biased towards this aircraft too..so maybe that's it.

Shit....
for that matter how about a few Corsairs, Thunderbolts, Typhoons, and Tempests as well....
God, that would be awesome.
Here is a pic I took at Wright Pat last year of a turboprop powered P-51 that the USAF and DEA actually thought about developing in the 70's.

Here's another one still in service that reminds me of the spirit of the Bronco:

Argentinian "Pucara"

^no doubt!! The Pucara is the neatest airplane to ever come out of South America.

We took a bounch of OV-10s on TR accross the Atlantic for Desert Shield/Storm. It was cool watching them deck launch.

Didn't one of the OV-10's get shot down during Desert Storm? I think I remember reading something about the pilot in Reader's Digest..I chose RD over Highlights For Kids when I waited in the Dr's office as a child, maybe because of the bad jokes.

Yes...

LTCOL Clifford Acree is one of the better known POWs of Desert Storm.

Yup. My dad was in VMO-2 (LTCOL Acree's squadron) during Desert Storm. Pretty interesting, and amazing that only one was lost, considering the mission they flew.

^ That's correct. VMO2 lost one in the begining of Desert Storm. The pilot was the skipper LtCol Acree and the Observer was CWO Guy Hunter. They were both captured and released at the end of the war. I met Guy a few years after at Fallon.

That would be quite the experience to have your skipper shot down. Just out of curiosity, if CO and XO are both lost, does the OPSO assume command?
