Haha, yea thats what I figured... I just wondered if I was mistaken about the dual warfare insignias.

Are you saying they wear Pilot Wings AND ESWS/EAWS if they earned the devices? I know I haven't seen the whole fleet, much less ANY of the aviation community, but I've never seen a SWO prior wearing their enlisted warfare pins.

I know a SWO who wears his EAWS pin. I'd imagine wearing a SWO pin over an ESWS pin would be sort of redundant, in a way.

NAVPERS 15665I Chapter 5 Section 2 Article 5201.2.c.(3) said:
Personnel with multiple qualifications, may wear two insignia, placing one in the primary position and the second in the secondary position, within the following guidelines:

(a) Only one insignia from any single category of insignia listed above <(paragraph 5201.2.a.)> is authorized for wear at the same time.
NAVPERS 15665I Chapter 5 Section 2 Article 5201.2.c.(4) said:
If no longer designated as a warfare specialist, continue wearing the earned warfare insignia, following the guidelines of this chapter, unless prohibited from doing so by administrative action.
Translation: If you've earned it, WEAR IT unless a board has told you that you no longer rate it. EAWS is replaced by pilot/NFO wings; Pilot/NFO wings replace each other. Otherwise, wear both.

Because if you have ESWS and SWO pin, the SWO replaces the ESWS IIRC.

You do recall correctly.

I have seen pilots wearing EAWS under their wings.
A no-no.

Gotta look better than the CanoeU guys with their Scuba badge on there.

Or better yet, the FRIED CHICKEN from MMA.

As a fellow enlisted submariner and soon to be naval officer (SNA), it bothers me to see you say that. You should be proud of what you have done. Wear those silver dolphins proud. It takes allot to get them. It takes allot to get your wings. Unlike the surface community, the only way to avoid gettting either is to quit. Where you have been is what has got you to where you are.

I've got a fellow shooter on board (LCDR select type) that wears his NFO wings and still wears his enlisted dolphins.

This is the second thread in a few days about folks being hesitant to wear enlisted warfare devices/ribbons or being recognized as prior enlisted. Be proud and press forward.

I'd like to hear some comments regarding priors wearing their ribbons and E-warfare pins in the pipeline. I'm definitely proud of what I've earned in my time, but don't want to be looked at as "that guy" when I too will just be another student.

The whole reason I bring this up is because I have run into a few guys that really take it personal when somebody of lower rank has more"chest candy", and with that in mind what about a prior who has been awarded an Air Medal (meritoriously)?...... (not me, another OC)

As far as name tags, I've already decided that my silver dolphins will not be added, but when in Khaki, Whites, etc, I plan on putting them right where they were pinned until I EARN those coveted wings of gold.

thoughts?
BLUF: Wear 'em, don't ever let anyone else make you think otherwise. Anyone who brings it up is not keeping you from looking bad yourself, but instead reflecting poorly on themselves.

I used to be a little hesitant about wearing dolphins back in the early days, for some of the reasons you brought up, and wore them sort of intermittently.

Now that the salad bar has fleshed-out a bit, prior time isn't so obvious w/o them. At this point, though, I don't wear them to let other people know, but rather to remind MYSELF where I came from.

Don't ever forget where you came from, and let your troops know your lookin' out for 'em (once you eventually get to that point). Nothing pays better dividends both personally and professionally. The Navy has no bigger douchebag than a prior that's forgotten where he came from and what it was like making pennies for this job.

I thought this would be the best place to post this question.....Is there anything on what ribbons from other branches are authorized or is there no restriction? I'm prior service AF with a year left until grad. and OCS but I'm just curious. I've looked in the uniform reg. and cant find anything specific. There's no question on some of the ribbons but with others I dont know where to find the info.

I can't speak to your specific rack of ribbons, but I'm sporting several given to me by AF commands.

ROT is ribbons from other Armed Forces are allowed; ribbons from other (State Guards, NASA, Merchie, etc) are not. Pins from other services are only allowed if they're also issued by the Navy, e.g., jump wings, EOD crab, Scuba bubble. They recently amended uniform regs to allow Navy guys to earn Combat Aircrew wings with the Marines. I'm not sure where they're at with the Army Combat Action Badge for guys who picked it up on IA; I think it's now allowed.

Per a navadmin or some such the Army Combat Action Badge transfers into the Navy's Combat Action Ribbon, which the member is authorized to wear.

That's what they decided to do? Pfft. Yes, that makes much more sense than just letting them wear a device they earned, fair and square.

I swear...this company we work for... :icon_tong

Thanks for info but for some of the specifics like overseas long tour ribbon, AF achievement medal and NCO PME grad I'm still unsure of. Any regs on the non-combat ribbons and medals? I'm assuming the GWOTE, Armed Forces Expeditionary and Air Force Expeditionary medals are authorized.

There are ribbons for those?

Holy crap.

I've known a prior AF who had to give up some of her ribbons. Don't know which ones, though.
