Sen. Schumer gas for electric car trade in program?

Maybe in TX, but many places have excess capacity, like WA, which has >70% renewable energy. For you engineering nerds, check out how Grand Coulee Dam works during times of low demand. It uses the turbine generators to pump water uphill through these enormous pipes at night into Banks Lake. That process is reversed during times of high demand. Pretty fucking cool. Also, new nuke plants are now all the rage... and they're renewable. I don't think a shortage of electricity is going to be a show-stopper for EV vehicles.

Yup, we have that on the East Coast too. PA has Muddy Run Pumped Storage, my old employer owns it and I got to tour it once (pretty cool engineering stuff). Water is pumped from the Susquehanna River.

Any neighborhood that might contain a large dog. DON'T let your cats roam free! If they wonder into the wrong backyard a large dog can kill a cat in 3-5 seconds. I have seen it happen.
Yep, and if you live in an area with raccoons no animal is safe in a fenced yard, not even dogs.

Michigan just announced the plan to go to 100% carbon neutral by 2035. With a wholesale shift to electric cars charging at night as well as electric heat pumps, not sure how this will work in the winter - probably as well as Germany which went full green and now is burning lignite as well as biomass (chopping down forests to turn into wood pellets)

Germany's closure of all their nuclear power plants combined with the cutoff of Russian gas has caused them to resort to some not so green energy choices lately but I think many of them will be shorter term. Their fixation, especially the German Greens, on shuttering nuke power plants is a relatively unique thing to Germany and not as much an issue elsewhere that relies on nuke power like here and France.

To each their own; unfortunately the EPA’s new regulations are killing such famed engines as the Supercharged Hellcat V-8 to appease the green lobby.

Frankly our world is better for it, just like mandating catalytic converters and moving away from leaded gas.

The push for improved efficiency and less pollution has given us developments like modern electronic fuel injection, multispeed transmissions, modern turbocharging, and a bunch of other things.

Has it all been positive? No. Has it been positive overall? Hell yes.

Update on damage from previous post:

$4589.22 is the estimate. I need a new liftgate, new body parts and covers, and what's interesting is that I need a couple of new carbon fiber impact bars that protect the electric motors and the battery. They did their job, as there wasn't any "expensive" (estimators word, not mine) damage.

Also said that Hyundai parts are in good order, so they'll be ready to work on my car Sept 12 (Yeah, that's still 3 weeks). I asked what companies are having the hardest time with parts- Tesla, Audi, Volvo, BMW, and KIA are apparently really hard to come by and have months long waiting lists.
How did the repairs turn out? Does it look like new again?

USAA had me use the local Gerber franchise here in Kalamazoo. They did a good job and it looks as good as new.

Ended up being a bit above $6000 in damage total. It didn't help that the liftgate they got from Hyundai was the last liftgate they had and it showed up with some damage from mishandling in transit. They tried to send it back, but the liftgate was backordered with an ETA of 6-8 months. Luckily the parts that were damaged on the OEM liftgate were perfectly fine on the one that was on the car- so they used the parts from both to make one good liftgate. I'm glad, as the idea of waiting another 6 months was not very appealing.

I was also offered $2000 from the other guys insurance in devaluation. USAA rep said I should absolutely counter with cost of repairs + $4000. So I did. We'll see where it goes.

When the weather gets sunny I'll post an after photo.

I recently completed 1800 mile round trip to Boston from Cincy in my Model 3. The charging infrastructure was not even remotely an issue. There was however a dearth of charging in the Boston city / downtown areas which I found interesting. In the suburbs, no problem.

Mass and NJ turnpike travel plazas are loaded with DC fast chargers - not only Tesla but ChargePoint and EV-GO. Wawa, Buccee's and Sheetz travel plazas are all awesome and Tesla has significant charging footprint in these places. @mad dog would appreciate because as you charge both Wawa and Sheetz have awesome heat-lamp wings!

The quiet ride and smoothness - and highway Autopilot feature - really reduce driving fatigue. The "driver attention" nanny feature is less and less based on measuring torque resistence at the steering wheel and with the latest software updates, uses the interior camera to determine driver attention levels and resulting "nanny alerts". I have found if I resist the urge to look at my phone and leave it on the wireless charging shelf, I can lean back, with my hands completely off the wheel for extended periods - even eating. But the moment the system seas that I have a phone in my hands, it nags the crap out of me and ultimately disables the system.
