If everyone thinks it's a joke, even it's even us. All internal training flight are stopped, only those pilots and crewmembers within 3 weeks of deploying will be allowed 5 hours to regain currency, all DODACs for ordering parts have been rescinded. No parts can be ordered unless they are zero-balance. All aviation schools have been cancelled for March and April...so far. The cascading effects only get worse from there.

To some extent, I think we're seeing the difference between the Army side and the Navy side. Facility support and stuff in the above ALNAV obviously show some cutbacks, but there's still a lot of bucks NOT being curtailed to make Buck Rogers on the Navy side, both AC and Reserve (at least for now).

These aviation types were the heroes of the previous Int'l tax wars of the 80's. The CNO told the pilot to never "push the little red button"... yet said pilot did in fact push the little red button whilst in flight.

Nah. Just kidding. (NSFW)

This was as TV advertisement for a Costco type store in Germany that didn't impose a VAT (Value Added Tax) on shoppers from neighboring EU countries. It did in fact boost business and pissed off the EU in a big way. I foresee see similar marketing efforts on behalf of stores bordering US states with higher tax rates here in the US. The states with the lowest tax rates on consumables may end up being the most successful states thanks to regressive taxes imposed by the so called "Progressives". Same goes for manufacturing. Could this be the beginning of our domestic new world order? Sequestration be damned.

Dude, dont drink the Obama flavored kool-aid that the news is handing out. 85B out of a multi-trillion dollar "lack of a budget" that we have going on isn't even a drop in the bucket. Are we going to see the effects? Yes, but only because the politicians want it that way. If they truly wanted to find $85B to cut then they could do it before lunchtime (or before any of their numerous vacations) without even missing out on a beer. If the POTUS wants to go on TV and hand out fear mongering about an $85B cut then maybe he shouldn't be multiple taking trips on Air Force one that cost us 500G's a hop. Take it FWIW but dont sit there and ignore the obvious political bull-shitting and fear mongering that's going on. If you're in ROTC then you're probably a good kid so just work hard and try to ignore this crap.

Thinking that the AD folks on here may have seen this already but here's an ALNAV that was sent this morning:

http://navylive.dodlive.mil/2013/03/02/department-of-the-navy-response-to-sequestration/

We were talking about this yesterday. Even with an $85B cut, the money to fly the A/C and run the ships is there. The point of here is that we need to learn how to do it without pissing away our operating cost on FITREP bullets like safety programs (and even MORESO on entitlement programs and mis-allocation) that have no quantifiable effects and experimental programs that are obviously going nowhere. The effects we're seeing is essentially the politicians taking the candy from the baby. This has been coming for years and if you think $85B is bad, then let's see what happens we cut the other 97.6% of the borrowed money out.

Agreed, the 85B is less than we funnel to our criminal "ally" Pakistan in a year. However, as you said, they chose the high visibility affect of cutting the military in an effort to make the cuts so heinous that surely nobody would vote them in. America as a whole won't feel a thing, but the frog's water just got a couple of degrees hotter.

....As long as you're not in one of the 4 air wings standing down or the 2 reduced to "minimum safe flying levels." In other words, if you're lucky enough to be in an air wing that will transition from being indefinitely delayed to indefinitely deployed, you'll get to keep flying.

Shouldn't this whole sequestration discussion be under the "failure of leadership" thread? Regardless of the effects/actual amount of spending being cut, it's an embarrassment. "Washington," broadly speaking, is refusing to do its job, which is to govern.
