Short story about friend defending himself...

My friend, call him Mike, was entertaining some people at his house. He legally owns a Glock 23 that he uses for home defense.

While he was minding his own business, having a good time, a convicted felon with a prior record broke open a window and climbed into the house with the intent to rob it.

'Mike' grabbed his firearm from underneath his couch and confronted the felon while his friends called the police.

To make a long story short, the aftermath of the situation was a bunch of BS.

The criminal took Mike to court under some bull charge (causing undue stress or some stupid sh*t).

My buddy missed tons of class over this, basically a whole semester of school that he was paying for on his own, plus a bunch of legal fees....

...all for a student paying his own way through school.

So...next time you deal with a break in, shoot(to kill) first, ask questions later? :D

I remember a sheriff remarking that if you catch someone on your property shoot him, then throw him through the window... Problem solved.

Thats what I told him.

He told me that he would have had he known was going to happen after.

Also, when the guy broke in he was under the influence of something (forgot exactly, think it was crack)

My old shooting instructor (a cop and SWAT instructor) used to tell all his students this. I've said it before but he basically said to make sure they were dead and then make sure that their body was in your house.

Did Mike think about a countersuit? Maybe the guy had nothing but it might have been worth it.

Bro's a poor college student man...

The dude was going to prison for the rest of his life probably, anyways.

Not much to sue, he'll be making license plates for 30 cents an hour

Why did the criminal try to break in when there were plenty of people in the house?

Also, sounds like the judge did not have much sympathy for your friend. Why not?

Off of what he told me, he was all cracked out

I don't know what the legal proceedings were like, but just the allegations and going through the motions cost him alot of time and money spent on legal counsel.

For all I know he showed up to the first proceeding and the judge was like "this is BS, you dont have anything to worry about"

But when attorneys charge $200/hr... thats steep for the majority of people, not to mention a student.
