Should I keep my current ASTB Score?

I am a junior in the NROTC Program and I took the ASTB and got 55/7/6/6. I currently have a 4.0 in Computer Science and I run a 95 PRT. I dont have an Aviation NROTC advisor and my current advisor isn't very knowledgeable about the ASTB, so I am just looking for some guidance on whether my SNA package would be competitive.

Tracking you don’t have an aviation advisor but you also probably have NROTC staff who track service selection each year to help gauge where you stack.

On the other side, ask your peers who are a year or two ahead of you that service selected aviation. As a tertiary search feature, there might be 1-2 posts here where NROTC folks share stats.

Good luck!

I would ask your nearest unit over the phone for their aviation advisors contact info. Maybe say it’s for mentorship assistance. It would be a shitty move for both your command and theirs to turn you away when you have genuine career planning needs.

I would retake it. Currently in NROTC there's a lot of sub drafting and a lot of people going for SNA. You're clearly bright, so getting 8/8/8 will probably just require a month of studying. Don't leave it on the table. Retake it.

Thank you for the advice I appreciate it!

I would recommend to retake, buddy of mine got 6/7/7 and got sub drafted (didn't even put sub on his sheet). If you are truly passionate about the aviation service, you will put the work in and study. I got 6/7/7 my first try, studied for about a month, 6-8 hrs/day, and got 8/9/8 second try and got service assigned SNA.

2/C MIDN who took ASTB for first time today and got 6/7/7. I am torn on retaking it because I am interested in going for an Intel spot. I am worried that if I retake and improve my scores, I may decrease my chance for intel as it would be easy to pass me up for intel and give me pilot/NFO as #2 and #3 on my list. I go to a top 20 school, tier 2 major with a 3.93 GPA, and high PRT scores. Would love to hear some thoughts. I am planning to meet my with my advisor in a couple weeks and speak to him about this too.

On top of speaking with your advisor talk to the 1/C who have service assigned aviation. They can give you an unofficial bar to aim for.
