Should I retake the ASTB?

Dominic Truehart

Final Select SNFO
I just took the ASTB yesterday and scored a 6/6/8 55 (form 4) and I'm trying to decide whether I want to take it again. My recruiter as well as the Chief at HQ seemed pleased with the score but I was shooting for at least 7s and a 60+ on the OAR. I studied for two weeks and took the test while sick and although I'm not certain being sick had a major influence on score, I would recommend that if future examinees feel ill before their test date, reschedule. I just assume it would be a more pleasurable experience overall when you feel 100%. In my case, due to a pretty odd string of events, I had to suck it up and take it that day. But anyway, I digress. I feel like my score is decent but I also feel there is room for improvement. Does anyone have any advice either as to whether or not it would be worth risking a retake or not, or any insight on what scores are currently "competitive" for Pilot/NFO? Thanks!

I would say to take it again, however you cannot before the next board as there isn't enough time, so go with it and see what happens, you may get lucky.

I was pro-rec SNA with a 6/7/6 50, but I guess that all depends on the strength of the rest of your kit as well.
