The Naval Aviation world is overmanned right now, and though I haven't been involved with a commissioning program for a while now, I'd venture a guess that it is going to get harder to get in the door rather than easier in the immediate future. Being .05 below the min GPA is not the same as being .05 below whatever is actually competitive. 2.5 GPA in Aero Science is not really competitive, even in good times. As for the other stuff, I'd say try re-taking the ASTB....that is one way that you can attempt to make up for your low college GPA. The flight time is really not going to matter to them; mil flying is VERY different, so nobody is going to put too much stock into that. Finally, as a LTJG/O-2 myself, I find it hard to believe that anyone would take an LOR from one very seriously. Just a thought. Regardless of what happens, you need to do basically a complete 180 in terms of study habits if you are going to even make it through the first couple of months of flight school. I don't say this to be a dick, but scraping by in a pretty easy major like Aero Science is not indicative of the work ethic you will need to make it in this business. So just know that, and know that you need to be harder on yourself. Good luck, and like everyone else has said, do what you need to do to raise that GPA.

Your right eas7888 I wasnt planning on joining the Navy until recently otherwise I wouldve focussed more in school and done ROTC. If I go back and take a class or two to raise my GPA isnt that showing the Navy that I have initiative and desire to be a Naval Aviator instead of giving up because I missed the cut by .05? As far as extra curriculars go I didnt list every last thing here its just a brief overview of my app.. I ran out room on my app including all the extra space with e.c., awards, and community services.
Sorry, I really don't buy this line. You got mediocre grades in college for the sole reason that you didn't know you wanted to join the Navy? If you didn't know what you wanted to do, you still should've applied yourself to the maximum extent possible in order to keep all doors open to you.

I'd normally suggest someone attend graduate school to increase grades, but I doubt they'd give you much of a look with a 2.45 gpa, too. Going SWO for the sole purpose of lat xfer into aviation is the wrong thing to do. Firstly, lat xfer's are in no way guaranteed. Secondly, you're going to be miserable doing a job you don't want to do for at least 4 years.

Thanks for all the input everyone. After reading these posts and speaking with a couple knowledgeable and experienced people I will be re-taking two or three courses and doing some community service. I will re-take the ASTB as well and get a better score. Im not giving up on my dream of flying. Thanks again every one for all the advice.

I don't know about your university but in mine you can do research for credit, up to three credits per semester for an unlimited number of semesters, that all goes into your GPA. Research is an easy A; and you won't have to do much, except show up on your assigned day run some equipment, clean up a bit, and maybe do some BS calculations.
LOOK INTO IT, before you sign up for some classes you have no interest in and end up with a worse grade.
