Snub-nose Revolver

Ok fellow AW-gunners,

I'm interested in a .38-Special +P/.357 Magnum snub-nose revolver. Got any recommendations? I have a thing for snubbies, I think they're cool. It would be for possible CCW and of course, neat-factor.

I love my SW 637.

It is very lightweight, VERY CCW-friendly, and a blast to shoot. A little pricey, but well worth every penny.

No, no, no, Fly. You are a go-to-guy for guns on this forum, but we part company here.

If "snubby' is the way to go for you ... and I agree, and carry one (a lot ) ... Don't go .357 ... not necessary for a back-up, too much "heat", too much flash, and a .38 Special is a better round for a 2 inch barrel. I.e., ... a S&W Model 642, for example.

Remember the infamous Miami Shoot-out ??? A .38 Special closed the deal.

*EDIT* ... practice with +P .38 Special ... in another handgun that will handle it all day long ... shoot a few dozen through the 642 "Lightweight" (if longevity is a consideration) for feel and fit ... and you will be a happy man.

Yeah, I only tack on the .357 cause I know some are rated that way. For such a small revolver, I'd definitley go the .38 Special route for ammo. We're on the same page there, no worries

Nothing special (pun intended!); I usually just use range ammo when I'm "practicing." I only have it for protection, not really for any long-term range use.

.38 Special ... 2 inch bbl ... everyone's got their favorites ... I usually go with a 135 grain Speer Gold Dot HP.

Because I care enough to send the very, very best.

What do you mean by "effective" , K'Dog ... history of the ammo (so-called "one-shot-stops) , personal experience, functionality ... what???

Unless you have shot someone ... it's all spe-ca-lation (sic ) re: what's "effective". Eveything "works" in a revolver ... or at least it's suppose to ... or you need to get another revolver ....

I am surprised no on mentioned the Taurus snubbies yet. I am by no means a gun nut, but intended on getting a snubnose for concealed carry/home protection since some nice fella murdered a woman and her kid down the road. Now some genuises just robbed our grocery store. Anyway, the Taurus is what was recommended to me by someone as a cheaper alternative to the S&W. There is a big price difference. Same thing as the S&W models only maybe slightly heavier maybe, depending on the model. It is generally a five shooter and you can get models that take .357 and .38 rounds. I plan on getting the concealed hammer model myself.

Anyone shot the taurus? Im looking for a cheap replacement for my pot iron generic snub. Stress fractured the frame...very glad I noticed before it got real ugly real fast.
