The way the river snakes around Bagdad reminds me of New Orleans. Probably just as dangerous ;)

Awesome pictures. What is the story of the MiG?

The base was a former Iraqi Mig-25 base, so there are bits and pieces of them all over the place. (This was the place where they were burying the Mig-25s as some sort of odd force protection/archaeological project...)

It hurts to see that -25 sitting there with a broken neck.

Any idea what the intent of the force protection/archeological project was?

And yes, that first -25, the one with the broken neck, is a 2-seater, possibly a trainer like Bubba said. Has there ever been a 2-seater -25 that wasn't used either as a trainer or for experimentation?

There was a version meant for SEAD that was a 2 seater. Not sure how many were built though. And I don't think the Iraqis would have had any of those.

There was also a trainer built that yanked the radar and put in a front cockpit where it was. I think that's what's in the first pic.

Someone with more money than I have needs to restore one of those; I would kill to fly one.:icon_tong

I think the idea was that they knew they were outclassed in the air, so rather than have their precious MiGs trashed in the air or bombed to pieces, they buried them. Sort of the cheaper version of flying to Iran like they did in Round 1.
