See, this is precisely why I do go to Wal*Mart. It's free therapy. I mean, seriously, I walk in there, and I'm like "wow, I'm slim, I eat right, I can afford most things, I can read, and I've got a full set of teeth. Life isn't all that bad, is it?"

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one for this Academy "service" time related question.

My situation: Went to NAPS, then 3 semester at USNA. I now have a completed OCS package waiting for the next board. If I get selected, does my time at NAPS and USNA count towards pay? I know if I had graduated from USNA it would not, but I heard recently that for those who do not graduate, the NAPS/Academy time counts toward pay (e.g.; I would get 0-1 over 2 years pay upon commissioning). Wondering if anyone here has heard similarly or knows the facts. Thank you.

NAPS time yes, USNA no. I was in the same boat. The only time USNA time counts is if you enlist. It should say something to that effect on your discharge paperwork from USNA. We had a Corpsman at my last squadron that did all 4 years at the academy, minus a couple days, and he was credited for all of that time when he enlisted.

Not sure about the longevity issue, but if you're putting a package together for OCS, the board will probably want to know more/have questions regarding your departure from the USNA. Just a 'heads up', check with your OR.

My package has not been sent to a board yet, but the Recruiting Command definitely wanted to know more - do you think the board will see my package and perhaps kick it back asking for more info? My OR has not even hinted at that possibility and there has been much communication regarding this.

My package is in CIRIMS - all waivers and "extra" stuff I had to do is complete. If anyone else finds themselves in this situation, this was my journey:
-First, make sure your OR knows you need a Reenlistment (RE) Code waiver (I was the first one to need one for my OR so it delayed my application since it ended up being paperwork needed after I thought my package was done).
-You will then handwrite (on a form) the reasons you left and what you have been doing since you left.
-You will do a phone interview with a waiver coordinator (mine was with an 0-4) who will ask for more details as to why you left and what you have been doing since (essentially rehashing what you wrote above); you will need this persons approval to move forward.
-They may or may not ask you to do a PFA at this time (PRT + weigh in/BF% check); if they do it will be with a command physical fitness leader and cannot be done until after you are PQ'd by N3M (they never told me what I was "supposed" to score, but do your best).
-Then the waiver "goes up" for final approval.

The process is long. I started feeling like they just wanted to see how much I wanted to "get back in" (since I had left a commissioning program). It "made" me miss the December SNA board; added about 2 months altogether to my process plus the time waiting for the next board. They also didn't tell me any of this process ahead of time. It was more like, "Do this... thanks... now do this too... thanks... no do this as well..." etc.

It will definitely be worth it though.

Sounds like you've done everthing they asked for, keep your fingers crossed, and good luck on your application.
