So much crap goes on between those 2 countries all the time and most people never hear about it. The odds that the UN will do something useful against NK.... any takers?

Oh they'll do something...whether it's useful or not? I'm going with not.

Well, my deployment boxes were getting dusty. I suppose it was time to find someone new to start a war with. Hopefully the current administration of S. Korea and the U.S. have enough common sense not to turn this in to a Gulf of Tonkin situation.

Nothing will come of this.

Just like nothing came of the time in the 90's when the DPRK dropped commandos via a minisub that got stranded off the coast.

Or the time they shot down a OH-58 that got lost and strayed into their territory.

Or the gunboat clashes they've had at the border.

Or the Pueblo.

So yeah, I'm going with jack and shit.

As for dealing with NK, SK has a lot more to loose if they play this aggressively. Pragmatic is probably best.

This NK/ROK stuff has been going on for a long time ... I don't think anything will change, anytime soon. Unless, of course, Red China decides it's not in THEIR best interest for NK to continue to behave like a petulant, mentally-challenged child ... for example:

North Korea-South Korea Tensions

It's not like we are just going to forget about these countries...and ZOMG!! They've got NUKES!!! Launch the missiles!....

What I am saying is people overestimate their capabilities to the point of paranoia. The two countries in question can't even hold up a stable government. Iran, internally, is in chaos...and how would it NOT be suicide if they decided to be an aggressor with nuclear weapons? I doubt they have a death wish...despite what the talking puppet Ahmadinejad spouts off every 3-4 months in the papers. I bet he can't even keep a straight face when he goes off camera every time he says the Holocaust was a lie..etc etc etc

I bet a lot of people said that NK was a long way from making nukes... right up till they actually had them. Now more than ever they can do whatever they want and play their brinksmanship games as much as they want. We both know that a real war would mean their destruction, but it would also mean more harm to us than we are willing to take and everyone knows it. The same thing applies to Iran, but we have no idea what they will do with nukes until they have them. Your answer to whether they will use nukes may be a US city under a mushroom cloud. For that reason I will say as respectfully as I can that I don't give a shit what you think Iran will or won't do with nukes. Neither one of us know, but the only time we can really do something about whether they have that capability or not is before they get them. That means right now.

By the way, stating that neither country has a stable government does a lot more for my argument than yours. Do you want nuclear weapons in the hands of (fill in the blank) that takes over for whichever unstable government?

Yeah, the DPRK is so unstable. They've been going on only for what, 60+ years now?

Fucked up =/= unstable.

Just because they are a "country" does not mean they are stable. By your definition so is Kenya or hell, most of jacked up Africa. I would hardly call Togo,Kenya,et al... stable

Point of Order.... We (IE our/SK's troops on the Border) actually tried shooting down that same OH-58 when it attempted to come back across the Border from the DMZ. Its actually a well known and well told story here at Rucker about Maintaining SA and the importance of Navigation. Especially since the flight its self was the Right seat ride to show one of the pilots the limits of the AO.

But that's why it's not that big of a deal if they get nukes. They are unstable and we have no idea who may be in control in the future. That makes perfect sense.

If ever there was a candidate for a country to be turned into a pile of radioactive rubble, it's North Korea. Why China continues to support them is beyond me. The Chinese like to take the long view, but I don't see how a country like the DPRK can be a beneficial ally in the long run. They're more like an annoying/bipolar parasite relative.
