Ok...feeling a bit overwhelmed. Am I the only loser without an acceptance letter yet? For some reason things are just not working out as planned. I applied to 4 schools and have really good reason to get accepted to all four, but haven't received anything yet. 2 don't give letters until March, but the other two seem to be stalling. For everyone elses sake I hope that I am alone, because I wouldn't want anyone to be going through what I am going through right now. I don't want to even think about getting this damn far into the program and then not be able to complete because I got an acceptance letter too late or the like. Anyone got some comforting advice. Thanks.

Apply to some shoe-ins (i.e. Old Dominion University, Jacksonville Community College, University of Idaho, etc.) They might not be your top choice, but you will have the same end state: A COMMISSION!!! Also, I learned when I was applying that it was easier to get in when I applied for liberal arts vice engineering.

follow up, follow up, follow up.....I called the University of Wisconsin-Madison about every 3 days. I was able to talk to the person who decided if I was in or not. As soon as I was able to talk to her I got the letter 4 days later. First make sure they have everything needed before talking to the counselor though. Just make sure that you follow up on this. Don't wait. And for the schools that don't accept till March it's total bs. They will expedite it if you ask and tell them why you need it. When do you have to have all your stuff in? My date is Dec. 20th and I will have my degree plan tomorrow so I'll be done. Closer to the cutoff than I would prefer but none the less accepted and done with it. I can not stress enough get on the phone and call them. It makes a HUGE difference.

Speaking from experience, CALM DOWN! They tell you all along that everything absolutely MUST be done by XXX Date (I know, I was STRESSED!) but then you get to Newport and the first thing they ask is "Ok, who still needs to apply to college?" They are only trying to get you to get things done ahead of time. The BS about not getting orders to Newport until you have your degree plan is just that, BS. In my class, everyone had been accepted to their college but quite a few people didn't have anything resembling a degree plan. They have a counselor here to assist with that. I'm sure the time frame is slightly different for folks not going to any BOOST session, but just keep this in mind and REMAIN CALM, everything will be fine.

(I know, I know, easy for me to say. I was probably more stressed than any of you when it was me going through it)

Unless you want to go to Evergreen, most schools will work with you if you tell them your situation. I got out of the "required" 3 day orientation here by telling them I was a Marine and wouldn't be allowed to leave San Diego until the week before classes started. A STA-21 who started college with me got the same deal and got priority registration his first semester (registered before he even left RI) because he told them he only had 3 years to get his degree.
It's all about finding the right person. I think I called the admissions and registrar's offices so much that they started to remember me and helped me out whenever I needed it. For the schools that are stalling, call the NROTC units at the schools and tell them what's going on. They might be able to work a little magic for you.
And might I add, I agree with the comment about getting your commission first and worrying about where it comes from secondary. I ended up not going to my first choice school for a couple of reasons, but regardless, I get commissioned in less than 72 hours with an SNFO guarantee.

Much thanks for the comforting words. And a much deserved congratulations to crowbar. The NROTC at Auburn is bending over backwards for me, but I ended up applying before I realized that they could help me. An extremely helpful lady there is really making things happen. Cal state San Marcos is also helping out a lot. The Veteran affairs liaison at that. STA-21-INTEL, your comments make me feel a ton better. I think I am like you were now. I figured that that was how it was, but I was not sure. It seems like everything in the Navy is like that. It baffles me, because I have always busted my rump to get things done just as fast as humanly possible to just find out that I am one of the only few that actually got my crap together. Then you're left there wondering "I could have just sat around and done nothing and still gotten what I needed." Quite comical if you ask me. I also have to go to the 3 month BOOST. How is it?

I am in the 6 month course, but it's....effective. It's not a navy school, so don't expect an "A" school type experience of breezing through. There are, of course, those who have absolutely no problems here, but they are the exceptions. I expected to coast my through but quickly figured out that this isn't like Navy schools. Take it seriously. If you are one of the lucky few that does just coast, good for you. If not, at least you'll be prepared and not shocked when you get here. I don't mean to plant nightmarish ideas in your head, I just think it is better to go in to it with a realistic picture for the academics you'll be faced with.

Bringing family?

Nope, not taking any family. The wife and I discussed it in length and decided against it due to financial reasons. It will be better for her to continue to work while I am away. And since we are most likely going to be staying in San Diego we didn't want the hassle of moving for only 5 months, just to move back. Boob, that is amazing that you got rejected then accepted. I will definitely give him a call. Thank you.

Whoever posted the names and phone numbers, use PM's to handle that kind of information. I deleted it but the system didn't leave any information/reason when I did it.
