Maybe if the entire investigation had been done properly the POTUS hadn't become involved, but we will never know.
If this whole mess results in the various agencies ensuring when investigations are done they are done the right way then maybe this who shitshow is worth it, I say this as someone who has personally known a few people that were dragged through the mud on bad investigations, one was able to recover and have a good career and another who on appeal had everything overturned eventually retiring as a MMCM, and another who had a doc that told the CO he was screwed up, of course my friend still called IG and ended the CO's career.
We used to value speaking truth to power around here. Pretty sure that’s what senior officials get paid to do.
Spencer joined the Corps in 1976, so he’s as familiar with the idea of a chain of command as any. One can’t expect to skirt the chain of command and not face repercussions.

As an ASO, during a mishap investigation I did the same thing.
I was right to do so, and my CO (rightfully) butted out.
"Sir, we'll find the facts and make our recommendations. That's what we're paid to do. You can say whatever you want on your endorsement and if we miss something worth taking a look at, you can reconvene us to do so."
But, based on another thread I've seen here, SWO's have no backbone and won't stand up and do their fucking job when it matters.

IMHO, the turd is otherwise unemployable. No one -- from the usual list of employers for ex-SEALS -- in their right mind is going to hire him.
The turd got lucky because we are in an election cycle and the prosecution royally FUBAR'd their case. Anyone who thinks this was his "first time" needs to rethink that... Everyone in the photo should have gone to mast and had their SEAL NEC removed, at a minimum.
