Hey Yall,

I was just curious to see if there were any other ensigns out there enjoying the stashed life while waiting to go to P-cola. We've got 5 ensigns here (3 goin' SNA, 2 goin' SNFO) just sittin' around arguing on where to go to lunch everyday and I wanted to see how many other guys and girls were out there on the same boat as us. Right now the two SNFO's we have are reporting to P-cola in January, while the 3 of us SNA's don't report until April and May.

Are you a may'04 grad? I'm an SNFO to be commissioned in 3 weeks, hoping to be stashed for a little while here in Jax, a large majority of our SNAs from May will be here til March or May, but the only SNFO was sent there right away, but has been in the A-pool for like 4 months so far. So you aren't alone!

I am a May '04 grad from the same unit as Icewoman. For some reason, I was one of about three other SNA's who were able to report to Pcola. The other SNA's, at least 4, got their orders extended in Jax until March/April timeframe. That SNFO she mentioned classes up very soon, and he reported after me. Well I still haven't classed up. The SNFO's who reported the same day as me have all classed up as far as I know.

The latest word is that I will not class up until late February, which would be beyond 6 months. It is the same here Paddles as it is where you are...just figuring out what the POD is after mustering. Regardless of being stuck at your NROTC unit or here in Pcola, just enjoy the vacation. To me, it's kind of like an extended semester: I go to class (aka muster) in the morning and learn nothing, then I see how nice the day is and decide to miss classes for the rest of the day! Hmmm...on top of that, I get paid too.

Don't expect things to pick up anytime soon. We have 2 stashed ensigns at my squadron (a FRS in San Diego) who have not even been to primary yet. They finished API and then got 6 month no cost TAD orders because there was not anywhere for them to go for primary. I ran into another guy at NASNI a couple of weeks ago that has 5 month stash orders before he starts the HT's. South Park got all backed up because of the hurricane, and they are still trying to catch up. There is an amazing glut of junior officers right now, so my advice would be to sit back, and enjoy your stash time. Try and take it easy though, if you screw up at anything, your ass is going to be gone.

We have two at NROTC GaTech. In about 3 weeks, we will have 6 sitting around the ROTC unit...

We aren't lucky enough to just argue about going to lunch, though ;) we actually have work to do ... well I do, anyway... the other ENS is doing IFS right now.

Looks like they are shifting us around again. I just got new orders moving my report date up a month!

Anyone else going down in Feb & lookin at places to stay?

Well, one of the other ensigns and I just got our orders modded to Feb 27. It's kinda bittersweet; I was really enjoying stashed life with Los Angeles BAH. While we do have things to do, it's still a laid back atmosphere compared to the fleet (duh). A couple of us are trying to get TAD orders to Coronado to do the Navy's jump school and I was personally trying to get TAD'ed to NAS Keflavik, Iceland so I could soak in the ...ahem....atmosphere. ;)

I miss one f-ing game...

thats the whole reason i wanted to be stashed - so I could get another football season in on a "student" ticket. worked for almost all of 'em

BEVO, who can I talk to at NASNI to get stash orders there? I am interested in anybody that will take stash ensigns. I'm an Academy guy and was told that I could arrange my own stash orders if I wanted to instead of TAD'ing in annapolis for 6 months.

navy05, look up squadron websites for squadrons in NASNI (VS's, HS/HSL's, VR's). Find their contact info and call or email them. They'll get you in touch with the right people. Word of advice though: don't pick a FRS since they have a lotta people there already and have a high op-tempo. Other alternatives include NAS Lemoore and MCAS Miramar. You can get an over-land and over-water backseater qual from either Lemoore or Miramar.

sweet. would MCAS Miramar take a stashed ensign being that its all Marine squadrons except the F/A-18 RAG VMFAT-101? If that was the case, then what about MCAS Camp Pendleton?
