Just remember that your stash duty will be paid for by YOU. Travel included. If you really want to shell out for a ticket to the West Coast, or have a line on how to get out there, cool, but the Navy's not going to let you file a travel claim. That said, I was the stashed as the "Bull Ensign" in a Marine Prowler squadron for 2 months. You'll probably get ribbed a lot, but I think they'd take you.

Two issues at work right now:
1) Flight school is backed up for Navy SNA's (NOT SNFO's or USMC SNA's)
2) Hurricane Ivan really took its toll on P-Cola and housing is very hard to find.

Our DEC Grads aren't reporting until May/Jun, so most of them have arranged to be stashed in other locations.

Getting stashed is quite simple....just call the command you'd like to goto and talk to the OPS O first and then the XO/CO and present your case. For the most part, squadrons love stashed ENS's. No one says you have to goto a squadron, heck you could get shashed with your hometown recruiter if you wanted....nothing like almost free leave.

Almost not stashed

I'm still stashed at my NROTC Unit here in Champaign, IL and have been since May. My original date was June, which got switched to Nov., which got moved back to January 14 because of the Hurricane. Anyone else heading down around then? Do you have any idea where you're living? I have a friend who just finished API and she told me my best bet is just to come down, and use my 10 days of TLE to try to find some place with some other SNFOs coming down around then. Also, in case anyone is wondering, she said she probably won't be starting Primary (she's SNA) until Feb-Mar. and she's already done with API, so apparently there is a decent back-up there.

Just had my first day as a stashed ensign at my ROTC unit... I just sat around for 2 hrs waiting for my PDA from the SKC... I could've left much earlier than that, but I at least wanted to stay there til I finished my latte and read the NavyTimes... I mean what a waste a $4 latte at Starbucks would've been if I didn't even get to enjoy it at "work"... tough day... tough day...

For those who are headed to Pesnacola (Dec Grads,) when do your orders have your reporting? They have me checking in on 01MAY04. Is that the norm?

Yeah scamminhard, that's about normal. I'm a May04 grad and I'll be reporting the first week of March.

Myself and four other stashed ensigns here are reporting the first week of March as well. SNA pipeline is pretty backed up now, but SNFO is flowing well.

The word I got was that SNFO's were going up 01 Feb - like me and Icewoman04 - while the SNA's were being sent 1/2 in March and 1/2 in May.

The SNA's reporting March should be Spring 04 grads and the ones reporting May should be Fall 04 grads.

Applying for CEC, USMC
Sorry for still being dumb about some stuff but how does housing work with the Navy, you guys are talking about finding apartments and such, is this only for TDA's or being stashed, or does it apply for all personell? I never really thought about that part of it before.

Icewomen, you need to relax. You could get a papercut on those mags at the unit.
