About $600 so says my boss. But what the hell, you will not walk around like your neck is in a vice.

$600...huh? I can only recall...collar devices, restripe blues...maybe $50 max. What am I missing here, inflation? Back in the day, same $$$ as pinning on O-2 or O-3. Super Hinge, maybe $30 more for new Bridge cover.

Oops, almost forget "wetting down"! That depends on:
1. How many in unit are being promoted in the same time frame.
2. Had my O-4 & O-5 WDP in WestPac (Cubi Pt.)...Mucho cheaper.:icon_zbee

Was in LAS and saw an older Marine with a clothing bag waiting for his bag. I was drawn by the SgtMaj chevrons and asked if he needed a ride into town. His clothing bag, with dress blues, showed a serious row of ribbons including the Navy Cross and I was impressed and took it at face value. Hell I even invited him to a private party that night.
He showed up with his fiance, a dealer at one of the casinos who was a really nice woman, and he regaled us with his war stories which were pretty damned good. Many of us were former military and USMC with BS Meters, that got fooled, but as the evening wore on, the meters began going off.
He had missing fingers with good stories, and his knowledge of USMC was solid but in the end he proved to be a phoney. Good but still a phoney. At least it didn't cost anything more than a ride and it was repaid with some good stories.
Years ago I had the privilege of meeting and spending time with a delightful scoundrel, the "Great Imposter" Freddie DeMara, who was depicted in a movie of the same name and played by Tony Curtis.
Turns out Freddie was an extremely intelligent and educated man who could have passed the medical board, or a law exam with ease if he had wanted to. Spoke 6-7 languages and I challenged him in several, and he was an absolute delight to chat with. At the time he was Chaplain at a hospital and I asked if he was actually ordained, and he chuckled and said, "you'll have to take that up with God".
The imposters will always be with us and my heartburn comes when they try to make anything out of it. Then I can get really rasty and outspoken.
Aside from that, and I may be taken to task for it, they are relatively harmless. OTOH. I will not hesitate to call them out and make them prove their bonifides if the BS meter goes off. If it does, let the catcalls drive them off stage and deal with them.

Phonies

A few years after I retired around '80, I moved from Lemoore to Phoenix. My first project was to find a good VFW Post to transfer into. I went to one near downtown PHX, went in to have a brew or two, a total stranger. A guy sitting next to me introduced himself & started "shooting the bull" (and it was!). Right off telling me he was an AF Phantom pilot in Vietnam, he regaled me about his many missions over the North. It smelled fishy, so I asked him how he liked his twin J-33 engines in combat (F-4 had J-79s). He puffed out his chest & said they were great & really helped him bag his first MIG!:tongue2_1
I near barfed, called him out quietly, saying "If you leave quietly RIGHT NOW, I won't loudly call you out to all these Vets in here!". Without a murmur, he got up leaving his full beer & hit the door. Guess I was too easy, but stolen valor was an alien concept to me then. He simply picked the wrong person to float that myth by.:D

I'm guessing the add'l costs are the mandatory dinner dress/mess dress uniforms?

Did anybody make mention of him being enlisted in one photo and an officer in another? I probably missed that as I skimmed the thread.

total DB.

Schantag also said that punishment is often too light. Worst of all, she said, is ordering an impostor to perform community service for a veterans' organization.

"Don't put them with the real heroes, where they can learn more stories," she said. "Have them dig graves in Arlington National Cemetery."

I want to make love to this woman.

I tried posting this a few minutes ago but it didn't take, if there is a repost, then sorry.

A bump for an update on this doosh:

You may want to decide beforehand if you REALLY want to see what this guy does in his off time. The pictures are nasty.
No, your post was deleted because this does not need to be posted on this website.

This one had to be a mockery...he didn't even attempt to look like a military member. He looks like a Ben Folds Five groupie in a Halloween costume. I did laugh how John Bradley said "He looked like he collected every medal there was and slapped them on his chest." His young age, plus chin pubes and wearing an Army General uniform? He had to have been just fucking around. Still wrong though.

I'm guessing the next things we hear from pubechin will be, in order:

1. That's not me in those pictures.
2. Okay, it's me, but I really did earn those medals. I can show you the paperwork.
3. Actually, the paperwork is classified.
4. It was a political statement.

What the hell is up with these people? If they want to wear the uniform, why don't they aim low? You never hear of guys (that i know of) getting busted for passing themselves off as clerks or cooks or any other non glorious part of the military. Am I right in saying that whenever you start presenting the grand stories, peoples BS detectors start to kick in real quick. I used to work with a guy, knew him from high school, that was only a year older than me (and I was 23 at the time i worked with him) who tried passing himself off as a Navy seal. Never went so far as wearing the uniform or anything, but he did say that he went straight into the Seals straight out of boot camp, was shot 6 times, was in bosnia and i believe somalia (this was around the time blackhawk down came out). Oh yea... the seals let him keep his M-60. Whats bad was he was high up in management, us underlings couldn't really call him out without backlash.
