This may have been mentioned earlier, but I’m curious: What is the legality in question here? I’m interested in any official FAA guidance on IFR pickups or filing in flight, if it even exists.

F-4s had the same set up. I think it's a "Blown Flap". Either jet exhaust or engine bleed air is re-directed downward by the flap to increase low speed stability.Very random question. What is the deal with the trailing edge flaps on the Harrier? The inboard flaps look like they are damn near 90 degrees down in the takeoff/landing configuration. How is that beneficial for forward flight?
Nothing formal at all. I’ve done it once or twice. Usually happens after tacform when we have 20 minutes to kill and we’re boredA question for the HSM (and maybe HSC) peeps...
Yesterday there was a section of Romeos that appeared to be doing Section instrument approaches. Is this something formal now or just a new JO hotness to pass the time?
For the record, I'm not knocking JO hotness shenanigans. I always enjoyed creating and/or participating in such creative outlets in an effort to improve my aviation acumen.
The MiG-28 was a true contender in the 1980s. 😂😂😂Is one a more obsolete adversary than the other one is?
The differences are all under the skin, mostly avionics, so not from a distance, no. When I worked for Grumman the SAMC plant at St Augustine did rework for the Adversary birds and the few Swiss jets then still flying, so I got to climb into a few. Elegantly dirt simple airplanes. Is there an easy way to differentiate between a photo of an adversary F-5E and that of an F-5N?
They’re MAs - see their badges - and that’s what the MAs wear on duty. If it ever got so bad that the MAs are running around topside during GQ, the Boat’s pretty well fucked anyway. This pic was posted by the commander of a deployed carrier. No issues with the post or image, but is it typical for sailors on duty to wear something that will readily drown them…like ballistic plates? Do all crew members don vests when under attack?

Same. As a patch “Rebel” (See what I did there? 😀) Start the countdown for some crusty retired Chief on Facebook: “tHoSe PaTcHeS aReNt wItHin ReGs SHIPMATE!!”Their patches are fantastic. Love the Star Wars themed one.
He's got a decent Twitter account. Tried to reach out to send him some Masters stuff ( Eisenhower related ) , but never heard back. This pic was posted by the commander of a deployed carrier.
