Hey I have a quick one. I have a couple cavities. Should I fill these before my flight physical or would it be alright to wait and have the Navy pick up the tab?

Almost all health insurances will pick up the tab for filling cavities. So if you are insured already, why not get it done now so the problem doesn't escalate? I did that recently. Went to the dentist and told him to fill anything that looks like the possibility of decay. Shit, why not? You can just put your ipod on to comfortably numb while he shoots you up with a mouth full of Novocaine.

Is the carrier deck always illuminated by lights, similar to the way a land runway is?

Didn't think so, just wanted to make sure elgible NFOs knew there was an opportunity to "play".

I know this would be a long way down the road for me, but how does an NFO go about becoming eligible for a FAC spot?

If you get to fly in a pointy nosed jet, then you can become a FAC-A.

I knew a couple of F-14 RIOs that went with the Marines as an Air Liasion Officer (ALO) and because they were already FAC-A's, the Marines used them as FACs. That's one way.

Concur. Become a FAC (A) and you'll be in the mix where you'll train with FAC (A) and JTAC folks at NSAWC (both aircrew and NSW). That's where opportunities to do either an IA with NSW or a tour in SPECOPS will find you. You may also meet some along the way on the job or after they conclude their tours. They're out there and folks know who they are; just be patient and concentrate on being really good at what you are assigned to do. Suffice to say they don't just throw anyone into these billets, there are various levels of screening/vetting.

Is the promotion from ENS to LTJG always automatic upon 2 years of service?

There are exceptions even if you can fog a mirror, but you'll certainly know why if you're not on the list. You really have to do something untoward to not make it.
