This is actually pretty sad. On the Army reserve side, we would routinely have in excess of 2000 extra rounds that we would have to 'burn' off at the end of our range qualifications twice per year. On some ranges, like the M249 range, we would have almost 5-6000 rounds of extra ammunition to 'familiarize' with after all of our soldiers had qualified.
Different budgets, I suppose, but I don't see why more money isn't allocated to a critical area like range training, especially for sailors who are headed in harms way. I suppose everyone has to take a different bite of the shit sandwich that is budget cuts.
