I couldn’t really find a defined line that established the criteria for either, and there might not be one, but how is the finsel determined? What is that they look for a candidate either for an SNA or SNFO slot? Is it purely who’s application lands in their hands first gets the slots left open?
Thanks!

FS is given whenever they pick your name from a magical hat and give you a slot. People who are close to aging out do have some priority though.

Roger, but in all seriousness, what criteria are they looking for in either?

To be selected? Grades, scores, leadership experience, letters of recommendation, and personal statement. Also, timing plays a key role. You might be part of a board that doesnt need a lot of aviators, so the higher scores the better.

Ok,

I've searched this entire forum and found a few answers regarding my question but some of the information is a bit conflicting. For females, are we required to have white under garments? I understand this is not a part of the inspection, and in the OCS list of items to bring, for males it specifically says white, but for females there are no color requirements except for the white t-shirts and black or blue swim suit. I just want to clarify since finding white sports bras a are a bit of a challenge, was just wondering if neutral solid colors are welcomed as well. When I went through enlisted bootcamp EVERYTHING had to be white with the exception of boot socks. Thanks for your response in advance.

I was under the assumption that the uniform regs said hot pink leopard print underwear. So it blends in with our dress whites.

sometimes anything but white can lead to interesting conversations, such as we had a few women who would wear bras of various colors, when we were allowed to relax uniforms in the gulf you could see them under the white t-shirts, thereby drawing attention to them (especially the very curvy and hot one), can you take a wild guess as to what Chief had to have that discussion with them?

just to clarify I am not against women wearing non white undergarments, but there is a time and place for everything.

Yep I def understand... I've been in for 9 years now, I wouldn't dare where hot pink in my summer whites.. however I've never had someone worrying about what color or what kind of under garments I wear under my NSU or my NWU's which are very dark colors... so I just want to be certain... before I waste any money.. and I def don't want to be the person that stands out or anything like that when they do the initial search of our items that we brought. Thanks for your input!

Food question. Can anyone comment on the availability of the following at the OCS cafeteria/chow hall or for purchase at the NEX while at OCS: 1. Gluten free carbohydrates (potatoes and rice), 2. Tea 3. Supplements (enzymes, probiotics - in particular for the one month when we are not allowed to have dairy). Thank you!

What is your OCS date?
No matter what, you will get really accustomed to eating rice and potatoes. Every flippin' day.
As far as beverages go, you're pretty limited to water, gatorade/powerade, and milk for the first couple months. Not sure which month you're not allowed dairy . . . I've never heard that. In fact, the OC regulations state that milk will be available at every meal (not necessarily the case if they run out).
Everyone is encouraged to purchase daily multivitamins, but beyond that I suppose it would depend on your class team.
You can write special request chits for just about anything- especially if you have a legitimate medical issue and/or prescription.
Hope that answers your questions. PM if you have more.

1. If you're actually allergic to gluten, then they would have to accommodate you, although I suspect that might be a disqualifying factor for entrance into the military. If (like me) you simply try to avoid gluten for fitness-related purposes, you're basically screwed. For the first week, your diet will consist largely of boxed lunches which are made up of 1) a "bread sandwich," which is essentially a thin slice of turkey-flavored food product and a thin slice of cheese-flavored food product placed between two large pieces of Subway-style white bread; 2) a pop tart or nutragrain bar; 3) potato chips; and 4) an apple! It's pretty darn impossible to avoid gluten in OCS, but potato and rice are served with every meal. It's pretty hard to maintain a diet of any sort actually. And after the fun starts with the DI, you will want to consume as much as you can to stay nourished throughout the day and to hold you over between meals.

2. No tea or supplements until the 9th week (by which time it doesn't even matter since your body is used to being without them).

3. There's no restriction on dairy. I had 2 yogurts every morning. The only restrictions are on caffeinated products and desserts.

As has been said, they'll accommodate most dietary needs once you get the proper chit, whether it's for gluten intolerance, religious beliefs, etc. Let the candios know as soon as you can, maybe they can make arrangements to get you some more appropriate meals instead of those box lunches (AKA "bag nasties"), which are basically exactly as 44magnum described. If not, you'll be eating nothing but the cold cuts from the sandwiches and an apple for quite a few meals that first week. Although I'm sure apples won't be in short supply. In the same vein, if it's something medical, let your class team know, they might allow you some supplements. Their first priority is your safety. However hard that may be to believe when you're gasping for breath in the SUYA.

Just saw the word "probiotics." Don't worry, they have plenty of that Jamie Lee Curtis yogurt in the chow hall.
