Right now they just roll into H until they pass, although I suspect that might change soon.

There was a guy posting on here last summer after he got attrited. I think he rolled on the IST three times, so I can't they'd be allowing anyone to fail more than that now.

Hey all, I was wondering if I needed to add my wife to my apt lease in order to draw BAH while at OCS? I know I’ll have to bring her Passport and our marriage certificate, but will I need to provide the processors with a lease? Thank you in advance.

No. In fact, there are good reasons to maybe not put her name of the lease. Federal law (SCRA) allows a military service member to break a lease at any time with no penalty if they receive PCS/mob orders to another location for >179 days. Some landlords and mgmt companies are dicks and may try to argue that she isn’t eligible to get out of her lease obligation early (severability of parties). You will receive orders after OCS and you‘ll want that flexibility.

I believe the only thing you need to receive BAH is to enroll her in DEERS and have an updated, verified Pg 2 of your dependent info. If you’re non prior service, work with your recruiter or any points of contact at Newport your recruiter gave you.

Thank you! I appreciate all the info. Just wondering how I can break my future lease for next year if my wife is on that one. Anyways, thank you again.

Ask your unit’s legal O, or don’t put her on the lease in the first place.
After a quick search, found out the clause applies to both service members and their dependents. Shouldn’t have an issue breaking the lease. Thank you for the replies!

For any of the married folks on here, is a household goods move scheduled at the end of OCS or is that typically something that is scheduled from your new command? Also, should I expect a plane ticket home from OCS to coordinate this or is this typically out of pocket? I have been in contact with my accessions officer, but he was not really sure about this. Just trying to let my spouse have as accurate of an expectation as possible.

You won’t be able to move anything till when you get closer to completing OCS and have orders to your first duty station/schooling.

Thank you for the reply. That makes sense. I wasn't sure if I had to be at my new duty station before being approved for the HHG move. It sounds like it would be approved as a part of receiving orders to the follow on duty station then.

Is there a limit as to how much money I would get reimbursed if I opted to drive to OCS instead of flying? Say I stretch out the drive over two or three days, would I get all of the gas money back? I don't expect to be reimbursed for hotels or food, just transportation.
I didn't know we get reimbursed for travels? How much of the travel will be reimbursed, flights, hotel, taxi, food?

The Navy is supposed to book your flight. As for lodging, you are supposed to stay on base unless you can get a non-availablity letter in which you can stay off base. Your lodging reimbursement is based off the government rate so don't expect to get a full reimbursal if you spend $300 a night. Food you will be paid off the daily per-diem rate and any additional travel expenses (taxi, etc.) can be fully reimbursed.
