Your not the only one with too much time on your hands. I made note cards as well and they ended up falling out of my bag in the pouring rain and got ruined. I'm now working on my second set:sleep_125...when's your date pill?

I haven't even been selected. That's how much time I have on my hands.
From my understanding we have to be able to spit all that info on each rank out verbatim. There is a pattern to them so it's pretty easy after the first few in each service. I'm just doing Navy and Marines since I don't think we get tested on the other services.

Yes, verbatim. That said, also make sure that you understand what you're describing, so that if for some reason you're under stress when asked to define it, you know what you're defining and can describe it in your own words. That's particularly important for warfare pins, which can get elaborate.

Don't spend your free time trying to learn all of it verbatim..get a working knowledge of a couple of things. I would try and get to OCS knowing the General Orders of a Sentry down cold...but you will have plenty of opportunities to cram the other shit into your head.

I'd just show up knowing the Big 4 verbatim. Yeah, you'll have time to learn it at OCS standing in lines reading your gouge packet with your arm out at a 90 degree angle forever, but its much easier to learn/memorize things in a relaxed environment (your home before you show up). It just takes a little less stress out of OCS.

Nobody really said - what happens to the candidates during winter stand down?

Winter stand down is for the staff only. Classes are expected to PT and attend all academic classes and drill functions as normal per the weekly schedule. Your class president picks one person each day to act in the capacity of the DI and give the approriate drill commands/RPT/etc. You still get Sundays off. Remember, discipline is what you do when no one else is looking....

Here's a dumb question. If I'm heading to OCS in August, are they going to make us buy summer whites, or just SDBs, or both?

I was sorta figuring we'd end up buying both and wearing both between August and November.
