I've taken the advice of several officers on here and my own OR. I really don't care what changes occur at OCS.

I'll deal with it when I get there. Reading about it and spreading "gouge" from xxxx isn't going to help get me there any faster or help me prepare for it.

Yeah I know about the analogies of the coaster and no matter how much you hear about it, its still gonna scare the shit out of you and I also know there are those who are just curious. But there are so many rumors (and yes I will say rumors, because I will not know for sure what is happening until I PERSONALLY am there to witness it), that its just getting kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

I'm still excited for OCS, whenver I end up there, but I do think some get too wrapped up into what will be changing and this and that. Just get there and do it.

If i have to run my PFA in a giant chicken suit while shouting "I'm a dirty boy", then I'll nut up and do it.

The same ensign that Bmaru referenced earlier said that stationary is available but stamps are not. Not sure if that is just initially or the entire time, but he said bringing a pack was ok and a good idea. If another recent grad wants to refute that, speak up.

Yep they dont provide stamps, and you cant buy them at the NEX. So either bring them, or have family mail them. your crazy if you plan on writing during indoc phase though. Better off doing other more productive things, like sleeping.

Was wondering about how they drill you on Ranks/Insignias while at OCS. Will they ask you for just certain devices, want the full description, or little of both.

Examples.

Question: What is the Navy Captain Collar Device?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am the collar device for a Navy Captain is one silver eagle.

Or

Question: What is the Rank and Insignia of an O-6 in the Navy?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am, an O-6 in the United States Navy is a Captain. His insignia is a one silver eagle collar device, or four 1/2-inch gold stripes outboard of one gold five-pointed star on black shoulder boards, or four 1/2-inch gold stripes below one gold five-pointed star on service dress blue uniform sleeves.


I know there could be several different variations I need to be ready for, but these are just 2 examples.

Is it always a star on the SDBs? On summer whites I thought the star is replaced by the appropriate insignia if the officer is supply, nurse, medical, JAG, etc...
