Super Bowl Flyover

Just saw the flyover for the NASCAR race in Fontana and it was LAME.

Let me be clear: I am NOT busting on the pilots. They were from VX-9 and were in perfect formation and right on time. No issues there at all.

However, if we are going to do the "above 1000' and less than 250 kts" thing, I'd say we're better off just boycotting these things altogether.

I'm quite sure that this flyover was micromanaged and under intense scrutiny from higher. Especially after the recent air force dudes getting schwacked recently.

If we're not going to make it even remotely exciting, then let's just not do it.

This is bullshit.

Due to my current employment which involves regularly attending NASCAR races, I've watched an inordinate number of flyovers during the past three years. 250/1000 is just lame, end of story. If it's worth doing these on the taxpayer's dime, it's worth doing them well. Sure the fans applaud every flyover since it's after the national anthem and everyone likes a flyover, but you can tell the difference in the reaction. It doesn't have to be 16ft over the press box, or dipping down into the stadium to be cool, but at no point has anyone ever been awed by a two ship at 250kts and 1000ft.

I know it sounds gay but IMO a good flyover is stirring. Being part of and seeing a crowd of 50k+ react to a perfectly timed, low, and fast flyover is just incredible, something patriotic about it. This is the best one I've ever seen and people at the stadium who aren't even remotely into aviation still talk about it.

I can't imagine a kid in the place who wouldn't want to serve after watching that. I think the top rated comment for that video summarizes it the best-

"awesome. America, fuck yeah"

Not gay at all. Since the flyovers are always coupled with the National Anthem I think they should be stirring and motivational as we honor those who have gone before us and have given all in our defense. As I have aged and gained in experience I tear up a little listening to The Star Spangled Banner and thinking of the stalwarts that braved unspeakable horrors and went knowing there was no returning.

Nope, not gay at all...

That one was pretty legit......would have been even cooler in blower, but I guess maybe that is a no-no

VX-9 had four FNAEBs a couple years ago from this event.

Modern aircraft record everything, including airspeed and alt.
Any problems, they can check, and then you are toast.

If you're gonna do a flyby, include a growler. Maybe they can sling enough trons to prevent your buffoonery from ending up on youtube.

A timid, meek and mild 250kt/1,000ft over-flight somehow does not even fit with these glorious and forever proud words:

".... O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave"!

[But then I wouldn't risk my wings for it either.... not the flag - I have risked my life for our flag - but for the flyover. :( ]

+1.....Ditto, I can't say it any better. I'd rather wrestle a constipated Tasmanian Devil, than perform a 1000'/250 kt. "FlyOver"! That's just lame! :propeller:slug_125::icon_cat:

They really could have used more than 250 kts yesterday for the Cup race at Martinsville, they were about a minute late to the party.... Wouldn't be surprised if TV cut to commercial before they got there.

Is it just me or is the AF doing a lot less flyovers lately? Seems like the Navy is having to pick up the slack.

I saw that, butI am the LAST person on Earth to criticize a Martinsville flyover.
