it has NOT. not unless you have the option of going to moody AFB, or the t-37 at vance afb. You will have that 'option' when you check in for API. othewise the mentor will be around for a few seven years.

NERD ALERT!!!!

Just messing with you. The T-6 won't be online for a while at Whiting, I think they're saying 2008ish. It always changes anyway. You'll get to enjoy the T-34 if you fly at Corpus or Whiting. It's a good airplane.

At the rate I'm going, that should be about the time I'll be starting primary. :icon_smil

Incorrect. If you are an NFO you MAY fly the T-6. You may also fly the T-34.

Probably moving into the T-6B by the time it gets to Whiting. Maybe by then the Chair Force will have made sure it has a TACAN... At the very least, the Navy will start buying the new series of T-6As with the newer cockpit setup and HUD/HDDs

I am not sure what all of the hype is about. T-34C is an AWESOME airplane. Many instructors say that a T-6 is too much of an airplane for a student to solo after 12 FAMS... But we will see about that when it gets here... But don't feel bad if you don't get a T-6. I guarantee that unless you have been flying a Cessna Citation or something like it, a T-34C would be the best plane that you would get to fly until you go to advanced...

Just read this at airforce-technology.com, maybe some of the FO's can comment.

"A high powered, single engine turboprop aircraft normally requires extensive rudder control by the pilot, and most trainee pilots graduate to jet aircraft where engine torque is not a factor. In order to reduce the need for rudder control on the T-6A, the Trim Aid Device was developed and patented by Raytheon Aircraft. The device reduces the need for excessive rudder trim by balancing the trim requirements, using the aircraft's pitch rate, air speed, altitude and engine setting to set the rudder trim tab position even in aerobatic manoeuvres."

WTF? This "Trim Whore" pilot is jealous . . . ;)

The T-6's rudder/aileron trim is controlled by a little coolie hat on the top of the stick, as opposed to our stone-aged door knob rudder trim.

No offense to those instructors, but that's crap. Myself, and tons of other kids that I know, had no problems whatsoever soloing out. With only one ride in the -34, I can't compare it to the Mentor, but it's def not too much airplane to handle.

The TAD just helps, you still need rudder trim. Also, I'm not the greatest and I managed to solo out just fine. I haven't seen any Marines at Moody and I heard they will stop sending Navy in the next few years. My advice would be stay Navy, the T-6 is not a good reason to go AF.
