BTW, Bunk, I'm not saying you're wrong, just matching what I heard w/ what you're saying.

I gotcha...I don't know the answer either. Hopefully a T-6 driver can chime in and give us the real scoop :)

It'll do 316 KIAS in a dive from FL220 down to 8000 on a student solo in the northern areas at Vance. :D

It'll also go up to 31,000 and hit 400 knots over the ground with a banging tailwind.

haha it was pretty cool when I had all of 25 hours in the plane. It would enter the break regularly at 200 with around 1400 ft/lbs (50% Tq on our guage), and it had more to give but it wasn't a particularly clean plane. You could hit 250 no problem between the initial and the break, if you were so inclined, and it still had more to give, but I'm not sure how much til it would have topped out.. I never exceeded 250 below 10,000, nope...not me, not ever.

I would assume there was a limit airspeed coming into the break...ie 200KIAS? I don't think a primary stud on his solo should be breaking at 250KIAS but that's just me. Hell, many of the studs I flew with could barely break at 170 without balloning 500' in the pattern...both ways :)

It was supposed to be 200. I stuck to 200 on my solo. Later, like late formation or navigation/low level flights, if the IP was comfortable they'd let you push it up to 230-250.

In FO land we fly 240 TAS in primary on our instrument hops, but if we're going above FL180 or on a cross country (or if your instructor wants to give you a helmet fire) we'll do 270.

I remembering doing 250 on the low levels, not sure what the power setting was though...

70ish.

I can remember this from over a year ago, but I can't remember RPM limits at flight idle in the P-3? fml.

It did the break at 250+ pretty easily, especially with loosing 700' just prior for NPA course rules. As for cruising speeds, we went to San Diego at FL310 with the the PCL nearly firewall'd and were hitting around 380 TAS with a decent fuel flow if I remember correctly.

Got to watch the T-6B's come in from the back porch of the squadron. Did they not want to land or park them on North Field?

I've seen the 316 in the dive too. Happened when ATC told us to expedite our descent from FL220 to 10000. A minute and a half later "Buck 351, state altitude leaving." "12 for 10" Atc: "Already?"

Guess that answers the question about Creamsicle Clown Paint.

Are there any plans to replace the A's at Sherman with B's once WF and CC finish the transition?

The CNATRA Vision 21 pamphlet shows the T-34 being replaced by the T-6AUP at TW-4 and TW-5 and also shows the TW-6 T-6A transitioning to T-6AUP beginning in 2012. Not sure what AUP stands for though.
