To be fair, you're in a brand new airframe. I can't tell you how many times I would be on station with your predecessors and some form of fire (engine or burrito) would force them to check off with a crappy contact report and a brickyard of unknown size or construct.I had to stop him and say “my brother in Christ I have had maybe 1 alarm go off in the span of 2 deployments.”
That’s kind of the point tho, choosing old broken hotness (and from the rumors, not in the old school classic car kind of way), or the new hotness which still has planes coming off the line.To be fair, you're in a brand new airframe. All good (and interesting) points. But someone, somewhere, in a galaxy far, far away has forged relationships, realized great personal success, and forged a very satisfying life being a part of the Naval Aviation enterprise - despite being in a very old, NC3 critical airframe. I guess the phrase "grow where you are planted" applies here . . .That’s kind of the point tho, choosing old broken hotness (and from the rumors, not in the old school classic car kind of way), or the new hotness which still has planes coming off the line.
P-8 has its share of issues, no doubt about it. But idk why anyone would take a look at an E-6 and go “definitely got to get me some of that” especially from an NFOs perspective.
Yeah this thread is nightmare fuel. Has me up texting my old IPs from helo land asking if I can jump over before advanced starts.I’ll be honest…I don’t know much about E-6’s but to me the only thing worse than flying rubber dog shit out of Hing Kong would be serving as a flight attendant on the aircraft flying rubber dog shit out of Tinker.
I have no doubt some find the mission critical (and it is). If a person wants to build premium SHOW hours this seems like the place to do it.These dudes seem to like it, not everyone likes the same thing.
How about on the NFO side of things?Flying the jet is a blast when you get to do it, but also my idea of fun flying is hanging with homies drinking coffee. Plus, it's the biggest plane you can fly in the Navy, so it is cool after you land it and you walk off the airstairs and you realize what you get paid to do with considerably less experience compared to civilian pilots. You train for a mission you hope to never do. I personally like it, but I have also bought into the concept of TACAMO and why it is important. The nuclear side of the military is a niche one and really cool when you get in the weeds of it, or at least I think it is. I also view the community is just in a rough period. The new airframe is on the horizon so that has a lot of excitement in the community.
Also, I think Tinker gets a bad rep. OKC is actually not a bad place to be at all, and sure it is not Coronado, but it sure beats places like Lemoore.
TACAMO is just like everywhere else: it has its pros and cons and you can be miserable and just see the flaws or you can accept the flaws and enjoy the upsides it provides.
I don’t see what’s bad about it from a pilot perspective. You still get to fly and build major hours for the airlines (if that’s what you want). Personally I do like the idea of a more passive mission and having a role in nuclear deterrence, but yeah for NFOs sitting in a tube for 14 hrs staring at a chat screen doesn’t sound all that fun.Yeah this thread is nightmare fuel. It’s exactly how he mentioned it, without the fun, the multi-engine heavy hours, the hanging, the windows, or the job satisfaction. I’m sure when he gets up from the flight deck with his coffee, he’ll get a sweet glimpse of the CSO on hour 2 of writing the PMR.How about on the NFO side of things?
