taking leave between API and Primary (USMC SNFO)

Easy? Possible? Don't even think about it?

Who do I talk to about this?

I'm only talking about taking a week, at most.

No reason to rag on the guy, it's a legitimate question. I tried to take a week after API, but it was just my luck that a Primary class started the week immediately following API graduation. There is NO wait for USMC SNFOs, unlike everywhere else for anyone else, so you've got a 50/50 chance of having a week off (Primary classes start every 2 weeks).

A new class will check in on Oct 3, and every 2 weeks thereafter. See how your graduation date lies within that before even thinking about asking for leave. If you manage to get lucky, more power to ya, but don't get your hopes up.

If API is like I remember there were a couple of Chains of Command. There was the Major at API with the really dirty Corvette who wore his charlie trousers way too high, The psychotic Major at MATSG that punched out a flight surgeon and teh replacement for said unstable major.
I forget who I routed leave through but I remember it being painful and confusing.

As painful or confusing as it may be, the COC is the ONLY place that can tell you whether you can take leave or not. Are you so scared of talking to a Capt or Maj that you'd trust gouge from the internet first? If someone on here said the chances are slim, does that mean you won't try? I just don't get it.... what is so hard about just asking your class advisor or whoever, "hey sir, would it be possible to take a week of leave after API" and be ready to hand in the papers.... sheesh.

Initiative.

Didn't you know, AW is its own Chain of Command...

No seriously, you are going to get gouge pointing every which way so just roger up and go talk to the Major about it...he is a great guy and you have nothing to lose by asking.

Why does this site exist, then?

Marines don't have a central place like the Navy's flight management office. What I'm asking is do I route the request through MATSG-21 or through API, or will I have to wait until I graduate API and check into Primary that afternoon?

I think someone mentioned it earlier but you will need to contact the Training Wing that you will be checking in to about leave for after API. With that said I know for sure that Training Wing 5 at Whiting Field will not consider or even discuss leave or chances of getting it until you check in. Best of luck.

One of the downsides of being under the Navy training is that there isn't a central place to talk to about these things (Not that its the Navy's fault, just when you are serving under a different branch it happens).
