If memory serves me right, the major difference is the P3's reduction gearbox was rotated 180 degrees to minimize sea water ingestion.

That seems unlikely unless Lockheed thought the Electra might have that issue before they designed the P-3

The basic engines are the same but they are not going to interchange between airframes.
Spent a day parked on the VP line in Cubi way back when comparing birds.
