081211-M-8053S-138 FORT WORTH (Dec. 10, 2008) The Space shuttle Endeavour, atop a modified Boeing 747, taxis toward the runway at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas. The aircraft is on a cross-country trek back to the spacecraft's homeport at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class D. Keith Simmons/Released)

While walking out to my car yesterday at Whiting, I saw that thing getting vectored to Eglin. It looks really strange. How many stops does that thing make, anyway? Is it that fuel limited due to gross weight or does it do the entire trip at MCT due to drag?
Too lazy to look it up.

Pretty cool , but have any of you ever taxied like this?

Yea-as .... I had a Captain that we First Officers called "SPEEDO" who was notorious for taxiing @ V2+10 ... the tower guys were always callin' him on it ... it looked something like this picture, minus the piggyback, of course ...
:D

Old R.O. Picture of the Day for 14 December 2008

Steeljawcrane.jpg

NAS North Island, late October 1977. Carrier Air Wing 11 was craned aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) before the ship deployed on cruise. At this time the West Coast was sending a couple of E-2B squadrons to the East Coast to deploy and the East Coast was sending some of the new E-2C squadrons to be part of West Coast air wings and deploy to WestPac. Here a VAW-122 E-2C is lifted aboard while another awaits below followed by a VF-114 Tomcat.
I wasn't involved with the ship or air wing, but got an invitation to come aboard and shoot the evolution.

Tired of the TACAIR junk...

Schweet! Popping flares, the Dub's in the back can feel the heat... kinda weird the first time you "feel" it.

Navlav.... edited his post- t'was a cool pic of an H-60 ripple firing flares, hence my now Napolean Dynamite excited reaction.

More Helo pics Sir!

adding to the HS love

Who says HSC can only do VERTREP?

Your avatar looks like the entrance to the Moloka'i horseshoe, but is obviously a F/H. When were you there? Just wondering if it was you that I flew over w/ my XO at the time coming back into K-Bay for the buoy arrival.

Eek, vertrep on the forward station of an FFG. Must've been disconcerting for the guys on the bridge. Helo pad clobbered or something?
