I know he loved the T-28, but then again, was there anybody who flew it that didn't?
Can someone explain what is going on here? Something to do with TACAN obviously..but what and why?

Maybe they're giving him a CCA (PAR, but to a ship). He's in a landing config flying up the back of the boat....that's the only explanation I have. If theyre testing the equipment and controllers on the boat, it makes sense because it's obviously VMC.
He could also be shooting TACAN approaches to the LHD. He's obviously not doing helo TACANs, but a TACAN is a TACAN, etc.
I've done this before for a ship that had had a long yard period. Part of their avcert.

He's probably certifying the TACAN and/or CCA. This is obviously pretty early in the process because he's on glidepath, on course. Later they will add in all of the associated errors in order to be at least 1/2 a mile right of course and 30 degrees off BRC (although the latter can easily be accomplished by the bridge).

Hopefully it will never come to pass, but if anyone ever looses the proverbial cloud of missiles that Aegis was designed to defend against, it'd be impressive to see a VLS CG or DDG let go with everything she's got.
