The Great Flight Jacket Thread (wearing/buying Leather, NOMEX, WEP jackets/patches)

I didn't say I thought it was an NFO only thing, I said I had that impression. A TACAIR guy told me that, (I'm a helo pilot) but I had never heard that before, never noticed it was only NFOs, so I thought I would ask. Like I said, I'm not trying to start a fight, I was just looking for clarification.

Truth: do what you want. Recommendation: wait till you get to your squadron before putting any on. A senior JO gave a ton of crap to a new guy who showed up with a T-2 patch. The same senior JO was given a ton of crap for putting too many patches on when he was junior. Best skipper I ever had (ground & air) didn’t put a single patch on his jacket. If a patch means something to you and you want to wear it, go ahead. Personally, I think understated speaks volumes.
 
I just wish they would authorize the green jacket for wear with khakis again when you are at commands other than squadrons. I hate the black jacket and the bomber seems a little over the top.

Bomber? BOMBER?!? Are you referring to the Navy leather flight jacket as a "BOMBER" jacket??? It is called G-1 by nomeclature or simply the Leather Flight Jacket. Have you been reading the press or something? It is decidedly NOT a "Bomber" jacket although press sometimes calls it that by Hollywood who used the Air Force A-2 jackets in 12 O'Clock High and Catch 22 and made it an icon. That jacket got the name of "Bomber Jacket" because of association of the USAAF and the 8th Air Force bomber crews that wore them in Europe during WWII AWAY from their B-24 and B-17 BOMBERS (they had to wear quite a bit more in their unpressurized aircraft). The Navy counerpart is quite different.

No I was actually quoting a friend of mine whose an ex EA-6B and EP-3 NFO.
 
I enjoy it when the SWO staff guys wear their green jackets with patches on them.
