Yes they are small ram-air turbine generators. The are refered to as RATs.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about when the "growler" is expected to start replacing the intruder and/or how that would work for new pilots. Would they have an opportunity to get one or do they go to the current intruder pilots?

While we're on the subject, if all goes well with BDCP and I actually get accepted and I'm winged in 2012, will there still be Prowlers? If I got NFO, that would be my top pick.

Looks like Prowlers will be mostly gone if schedules are kept up (from the Navy--I just realized this is in the USMC forum). It's a shame too because I always thought they were cool. Oh well, I guess the last thing I need to worry about at this stage in the game is flying things.
