I agree, but having been on an Apollo history binge recently, I must point out that the US public became bored with going to the Moon both in general interest and financially after less than 6 moon landings. We couldn't even keep people interested in going to the moon for more than a year after we first landed on it.

NASA seriously sterilizes the humanity out of the astronaut corps. I get it...but good people are boring people.
