You’ve lost your objectivity, Chuck. I know you’re a Musk fanboy, so don’t take this personally, but count me out. I simply don’t like the way Space X does business, and they aren’t revenue-positive. I think the IPO is capitalizing on emotions (e.g. yours), and retail investors are going to get fleeced- if for no other reason than they’re trying to win the Indy 500 riding a llama. The only “exponential growth” will be done by the whales, who already have their bets placed.
I’m getting “rich” the old slow, boring way: Home ownership, a managed portfolio and a 401k. We’re doing all right.
If you have an index fund, you likely are. I know the S&P 500 did not modify/change its rules to include SpaceX but most other stock indexes have to include SpaceX, Anthropic and OpenAI so if you have any money in an IRA/TSP/401k you will almost certainly have 'stakes' in all 3 after their IPO's.
...which is completely understandable as part of a diversified strategy. A pure play on Space X by a small time retail investor is begging to get slaughtered. Same for crypto, sports betting, or any kind of day trading.
You simply aren't likely to "beat" the market. Retail investors don't have the tools, speed, or inside knowledge to win at that game a majority of the time. Everyone has a story about someone who got lucky, and that perpetuates the behavior. We forget about the 98% who didn't.
