I've had my KSO Treks for almost a month now and have really enjoyed them. I haven't done a time comparison yet, though I have a couple of 5ks coming up and I'll see then. This half of the CY I just did the CFT, vice the PFT, so I missed that opportunity to compare.
On the good side, your can definitely go sockless comfortably. The downside is that you either end up cleaning the shoe a lot or using a lot of spray or footpowder to avoid rankness.
If you end up running through puddles or muck, you are definitely going to get them soaked through and require a wash.
Small rocks are okay. Really big rocks are okay. Medium-sized rocks are hell in these things. I did a dry river bed trail the other night and was in hell.
I recently ordered a set of cross-country racers to supplement the KSOs on longer runs and on the aforementioned rock trails.
