USS IOWA during the Northern Wedding Excercise in 1986 off the coast of Norway. The USS Boone helo hanger doors shuddered like leaves in the wind when the shock waves from the 16 inch guns hit. Great times!

I think my favorite SWO shirt was one an ENS was walking around in on the Gates:

Front side - "SWO doesn't suck..."

Back side - "You suck!"

We always thought that was like saying, "My mom says I'm cool."

I'm sure that they would have been expensive as a mofo to maintain present day, but I think the old BB battlewagons w/ 21st century upgrades: firescout drones, Link 16, Tactical Tomahawk, SeaRAM, and of course some 16" GPS guided projectiles could have made this a very relevant littoral platform. Maybe even replace the steam boilers and put in 4 or 6 RR MT30 gas turbines. Could've been a contender.

LCS Pics from Alexandria, VA

Went over to see LCS-1 and Firescout yesterday HJ.. pics on the way. Although she is way overbudget, I was very impressed with the Lockheed version of LCS. Great lines....and her 777 powered pump jets could empty an Olympic sized 12,000,000 gallon swimming pool in 2-3 seconds. Pretty damn fast vessel even for 3000 tons. Edit: As promised, here are a few pics from yesterday in Alexandria, Va. The USV in the 3rd pic is actually a remote controlled vessel part of the ASW suite. That's actually a TB-29 towed array on the reel...all the acoustic info is sent by data link to the STs on the big boat.
