Wow look at all that khaki and not a single NWU.

Doesn't seem too popular aboard Bataan either...

Is it common for a SWO to wear a bag?

He's the CO so who's going to tell him otherwise? Of course, the LCAC "drivers" wear them so he may have even come ashore in one and simply wore what they did.

Looks like XO followed suit, but he at least rates a bag

Dammit, how can a SWO get brown boots but supply can keep telling me to pound sand every time I beg them to order me a set!? Sacrilegious!

Switching topics to PHM's. We operated with the PHM's at length mid 86 to mid 1987. FFG's were their preferred unrep/gas station at sea. They can putt around on their diesels for days but when foilborne- that LM2500 burns as much fuel or more fuel than you guys in the air. (If memory serves in excess of 6000 pounds per hour.) I forget what their max angle of bank during a turn foilborne- anyone remember? Anyway I hope you enjoy the photos. Sorry for the poor quality- I can't believe they've deteriorated in so few years.

Pretty cool ride(s) even if a lot of gas gets burned!

Making Recruiting Great Again
If only I was in the Navy back in the 70's/80's. Sick mustaches, chopped sideburns, incredibly unsat haircuts, long-sleeve khakis, NO NWU's- what a life.

I flew over the Pegasus (?) in Puget Sound @ 100 years ago when she was testing -- she was makin' bacon; don't know how many knots, but she was MOOOOVIn' ... she looked GREAT ... wish the NAVY had taken 'em seriously.

Might be a nice tool to have chasing pirates or drug runners in their cigarette boats.

That not too far off. The 3 struts and foils were made of stainless steel and fabricated by Boeing. They were rated to cut through 3 foot diameter logs if memory serves. Today's drug smuggling submarines and go fasts wouldn't stand a chance at "ramming speed". Oh - sorry. Don't we have to mirandize them now a days first?

By they way there is a group of folks in the midwest somewhere who are using parts from several PHM's to make a single functional PHM. Now that I'd fly out to see once completed. Ever see a PHM hit a small whale? Pink Thrust!

Here is a link to the PHM guru's. http://www.foils.org/restore.htm
