I hope your right I honestly do but the pessimist in me sees too many problems and too many generals who made the decisions now making millions as members of the board at Bell. I think it was a fundamental flaw at the outset, the USMC should not be in the R&D business period, we dont have the money or the expertise we got stung by things that the AF adn Army have dedicated acquisitions people to aviod. I think if we had waited and let the AF or Army develop tilt rotor tech and then said we want it with the following mods we would have been much better off could have had an "off teh shelf" replacement for the Phrog 20 years ago and now be looking at tilt rotor. Probably all at a net savings. I could be talking out of my @ss too.

Didn't the Marines have trouble when they began to stand up the first Harrier squadrons? When they took low-hour pilots they started loosing them left and right?

yes and it could be argued the harrier never lived up to its billing, It is however whether the credit goes to the pilots or the systems the best CAS bombing platform (just wish it carried more) Ive seen (122 controls as a FAC) They will shack the target time and time again hornets are ok but they would rather be doing air to air anyway
