Time frame for waiver approval

I also posted this on usnavyocs.com, but I figured there's probably a lot of people who aren't members of both sites.

Hello all. I am inquiring to see if anyone knows anything about the updated (according to my OR) policy for waiver submissions. My waiver is for an arrest a few years ago, and my OR has informed me that he has to fill out a bunch of paper work, send it to the Navy lawyers to sign off on, and then get that signed by the CO to get it approved. Does anyone have any idea how long this process takes? My OR should have the paperwork sent off by the end of this week. I am praying I make it into the November SNA board since they are the last for a while. My package and everything has already been sent off a while back, I'm just waiting to hear back about this waiver. Thanks.

Hey GoVols,

I'm in a similar situation. I submitted awhile back (Sept 20th) and was told I'd be in the October board. Now my OR is saying that I can still make the November board but I need to get a waiver for a Minor In Possession of Alcohol that I got in 2008. To me, that makes it sound like it should not take long. But I guess the sooner it gets in, the better.

I don't know. I'm trying to be optimistic, but when you have to send paperwork to some lawyers AND a CO, it definitely has the potential to take longer than 2 and a half week. AgonxAVR, I was arrested and subsequently plead guilty in court.

That is a conviction, not an arrest. I asked because typically for arrests without convictions no waivers are necessary, unless that changed too.

According to the court, I was never convicted.

The MIP system in my state is such that if you are a first offender and don't mess up again, like in my case, you are never technically convicted, the record is expunged and it is technically never supposed to show up again. I didn't want to take the risk, so I told the Navy.

I also am waiting for my NRD CO to sign a waiver which was submitted a couple of weeks ago. I really want it to get done in time for the Nov board submission (by Oct 24). Is there anyway to be proactive in this, without pestering the OR?

Nothing is expunged as far as the military is concerned.

I realize that, hence, I am filling out a waiver.

According to the judge, no, I was never found guilty. I plead guilty, but according to the courts if you make it through the probation, you are not convicted, hence, not guilty. However, if you get in trouble for other stuff, it can resurface. I don't know, it is a weird system for MIPs that we have in Michigan.

Sonog, I am feeling the exact same way you are. If you figure out, or someone tells you a good way to go about that, will you please please PM it to me? I would really appreciate it.

GoVols, I don't know if this is too late to help you, but I put in for a waiver back in the end of August. I finally got word on this past Friday that the waiver was approved.

Haha yeah, sadly this is what it's looking like for mine. Haven't heard a word back since a week, and tomorrow is the last day until I'm forced to wait until April for the next board. I told my recruiter that if the CO is in his office tomorrow, I will drive the 3 hours from Knoxville to Nashville to meet with him face to face instead of attending my afternoon classes.

Yeah, turns out the NRD CO waited over a week (until the last possible second on the last possible day) to talk to me, and then just decided he was going to send it up the chain to Millington without approving it, so it looks like I will be waiting until the April boards. The joy of the Navy recruiting process is incalculable.
