My D.I. gave us all of his time. My Chief and class officer, however, were hardly ever seen. The D.I's seemed to care more.

Three weeks may seem like "not enough" but keep in mind, the DI kinda disappeared after week 7 under the old format...which was drill comp. Now that he doesn't need to teach rifle drill (which took up a lot of time), he can concentrate on mashing the sh!t out of you.

For any "old timers" things got easier after the first RLP, as the Gunny's focus shifted from weeding to teaching drill, and by the 2nd RLP, forget about it, OCS was basically over. So on the surface it seems like "wow, only 3 weeks with the DI," but he's still on your class team, and will be more than happy to show some love if you get sloppy.

Seems like they brought in the Bob's to stream-line where they could, while maintaining the purpose of molding officers.

"Old time" is when the DI's where with you for all 14 weeks. My class managed to do something stupid around week 10 and lost all privileges, liberty etc and had to move into the "fishbowl" (rooms right next to the DI's office) for a week.

You cannot convince me that the new syllabus will produce as high quality product as before. The quality of an officer depends on his/her personal motivation. You have to want it hard enough to fight through all the BS. IMHO, this change will let people make it through who would not previously and thus, the average quality will go down.

But, this does make sense from a $$$ perspective that we need every dollar now for operations in the GWOT. I stand by my prediction on the DI's remaining after the move to Newport though.

Please... OCS wasn't that hard under the old system anyway... once you got past living meal to meal. And even in the old OCS you could get on the computers every night after dinner.

I don't know if things were different way long ago... but when I went through under the "old" 12 week program... everyone had cell phones and contraband...everyone did their own thing. We all went on computers every night etc.... yet we all passed 4th week RLP and earned Honor Class.

But it's still sad that you don't have the rifles... that was alot of fun after all was said and done.

it will be back to being "kife and fork" school.
I'm trying to study up, because I don't want any unnessessary attention drawn to myself. So you start with the outer fork and work your way in or is it the opposite. Crap I always forget. They need to publish a booklet. Hey Metro you got a mnemonic for this yet?:icon_smil

Personally, I think that happened a while ago (I went through in 2002). The fact that it's nearly impossible to be attrited from OCS means that anybody who wipes their ass right can get through.

I dunno If I agree with the non attricion thing. ALOT of people got kicked out for /medical/ reasons when I was there.. but.. I know alot of guys that fought through serious injury every day and made it. Myself included. Every day was a pain filled battle. Some people would put up with it, some people would take the Med DQ.

Medical NPQ and getting attrited are two different things. I'm talking about not being able to attrite someone based on sh!tty performance. You have to do something really stupid like get a DUI or look at porn on the CMC's computer to get attrited.

Yeah, Ill agree with that. Guys rolled, but they always made it through at the end. Id like to think that those peoples communities eventually weeded them out though. I know one non-hacker we had, ended up failing his day zero inspection at Nuke school. Apparently the inspection is similar to the day zero API inspection. Whoops.

Well, what I saw was they would single out people that needed to be attrited and put enough pressure on them so they woudl quit... only happened a few times though. And I heard that they did just attrite a single program female, and she is now on her way to Great Lakes.

Do the DIs still jam all your belt buckles in your mouth and bang your head repeatedly against the bunk rail during inspections while you are trying to quote the General Orders of the Sentry while they scream that you are a "goddam lying four-eyed maggoty bag of s***!"?

I can verify that. She got caught with candy in her locker twice. Her fault though, shes the one that left it open. She was BDCP so she is on her way to Great Lakes to fulfill the rest of her contract.

Also agreed that there is a little to no attrition rate, and people are getting through that shouldn't. We've got a few kids in our class that shouldn't be anywhere near here.

I'm also pretty disappointed about our drill. Initially we were supposed to march with swords, which would have been pretty cool, but we ended up with nothing. So our drill comp was lame, yet we still had people that managed to fvck it up.

Do you mean that you didn't do any drill with rifles and/or swords? I was kinda looking forward to playing with swords. Swords are cool....
