TIS Waiver

Hey Folks,

Long time reader, first-time poster. Currently Active Duty Air Force with nine years TIS. Working with an OR and he’s unsure if it’s even worth the effort in submitting for waivers and applying, trying for IP and SWO. Does anyone have a similar experience or know if a waiver would even be entertained by the board for someone approaching 10 years in?

Thanks in advance.

Check out the program authorizations for both programs:

The emphasis on waivers: "In the event an applicant does not meet all of the above qualifications, but is otherwise an exceptional candidate or contains a proven skillset required for service in the Surface Warfare community, a waiver request may be submitted for consideration."

It's fairly easy to get a waiver, however note that a waiver only gets you seen by the board and it's very possible you are told no due to the TIS.

Finally, going back to the quote, do you have a proven skillset/exceptional qualifications to offset the high TIS? Communities like to contain the prior service TIS due to the likelihood you and others will retire in 10 ish years.
