If my husband gets his orders around the 12 week of OCS, can he get on the housing list then?
As long as you have your orders in hand and a page 2 to furnish to housing you should be good to go.
NAS Pensacola Housing website:
http://www.naspensacola.navy.mil/housing.htm
Due to our current waiting periods for military housing, all service families arriving in the area will be required to locate housing in the local community while awaiting assignment to military housing. The current waiting time for enlisted quarters is in excess of one year. Waiting time for officer quarters varies from 3 to 18 months.
All eligible officers and enlisted personnel assigned to a command in the Pensacola area complex, including NAS Pensacola, NTTC Corry Station, Naval Hospital, Saufley Field and the Naval Air Technical Training Center are given equal opportunity to apply for military housing. Officer housing waiting lists are maintained by pay grade and size of family. Enlisted housing waiting lists for E1-E9 are maintained by size of family. Bedroom entitlement is based on one bedroom per child. Application should be made upon reporting to the area. Sponsors must provide a copy of Permanent Change of Station orders and Record of Emergency Data (page 2). The detachment date will become the effective date on the waiting list if application for housing is made within 30 days of reporting to Pensacola. Service members must have a minimum of six months remaining on their tour in Pensacola to accept assignment to military family housing units.

Will we get some sort of travel allowance to prior to our PCS move or does that get reimbursed?
Ok, you mentioned that you were prior enlisted earlier, but I am going to make the assumption that you went off active duty, and got picked up for OCS. Ok, first travel allowance:
Per Diem http://www.dtic.mil/perdiem/pdrform.html
While in transit you will get per diem for your travel, though not much for that "local" move from OCS to Pcola...
Dislocation Allowance http://www.dtic.mil/perdiem/faqdla.html
You wouldn't be eligible for DLA right out of OCS. For those like myself that were active duty that got commissioned, or on your NEXT set of PCS orders, you are eligible for DLA. NOTE: DLA IS NOT BASED OFF OF YOUR LOCATION!!!
Check out your DLA rates here:
http://www.dtic.mil/perdiem/dla-2000-01-01.pdf O1 with dependents is $1368 for example.
I understand that as a uniformed member, I may receive a DLA to help with relocation expenses when moving my household due to a PCS. Is this true?
Answer: Yes - generally true. You may be entitled to a DisLocation Allowance (DLA) when relocating your household due to a PCS. However, keep in mind that DLA is intended to partially reimburse relocation expenses not otherwise reimbursed and probably will not reimburse all of your relocation expenses.
Am I entitled to DLA when moving from my home of record to my first duty station?
Answer: By law there is no DLA entitlement when the PCS is from your home (or the place where you entered active duty) to your first permanent duty station (PDS)unless your dependents actually move in connection with the PCS.
As for travel allowance, you usually get up to ? 80% ? of your estimated travel claim upfront, that is if you have a good PSD, and you request it when you fill out your paperwork. The rest of course would get reimbursed when you file your travel claim.
You didn't bring up a DITY move (Do It Yourself Move), but that is another option to make some $$ off of.
One website on it:
http://www.nsnpt.navy.mil/Code50/55/dity.htm
The Self Procured (DITY) program is an alternate means of moving your personal property. Ninety-Five percent of what is would have cost the government to move the property will be paid to you for a (DITY) move. Final settlement is based on the actual weight moved. Your actual costs are deducted from the 95% and the remainder is your financial profit, less applicable Federal and State taxes. Incentive payment estimates provided at the time of counseling are estimates only.
Under the Self Procured program you:
- Obtain the necessary equipment, materials, and vehicles to safely transport the property.
- Locate weight scales to obtain certified tare and gross weights.
- Obtain receipts for expenses.
- Submit settlement claim. If a final settlement claim is not made within 45 days after the start of the move, action will be taken to recoup any advanced operating allowances from your pay.
- Failure to comply with the provisions of the program limits reimbursement to actual expenses incurred not to exceed the cost the government would have paid to move your property.

As far as TLE goes, do we get that upfront, or do we provide the Navy with receipts and then they reimburse us months later (as we have had before).
You will provide the reciepts when you file your travel claim.

Also- what other options are there around Pensacola outside of typical hotels?
I honestly don't recall what hotel we stayed in, but you of course have the Navy Lodge there on base, and a variety of hotels off base. I was just moving down the road from Gainesville, so it wasn't that hard. Here are some useful links that may be helpful.

These are probably really stupid questions,
Yeah, I can't believe you are asking these questions... not... moving is definitely a stressful time, and I am sure other ppl have stuff to add to this, plus get something out of it.
