Sept 20-23 2006 will be the Tomcat Sunset Ceremony at NAS Oceana (where else?). VF-31 will be last squadron standing...at least with flyable Tomcats and will conduct the ceremonial last flight before they transition to the F/A-18F. Details on the Ceremony agenda are hosted at http://www.tomcat-sunset.org

If you want to join the forum on anything related to the Sunset and units that have flown the Tomcat, then go directly to:http://http://www.tomcat-sunset.org/forums/

Why not? VMA-311 is the "Tomcats" and they fly Harriers. Besides, VF-31 was designated the "Tomcatters" in 1948, and last I recall, the F-14 hadn't quite hit the fleet then.

I cruised with VF-31 for my 1/C cruise...those guys were solid...awesome that they're takin' the 14 down.

Looks like that God damned spotted owls from the NW. I'd love to take one of those things and eat it right in front of a group of hippies.

Here's to Good ole Bull Halsey, I too hope to dash madly from major sea battle to sea battle and not do anything, then run my fleet into two typhoons and still make 5 stars.

sorry for the threadjack, I always wonder why Halsey and not Spruance who did so much more.

I wondered if anyone who make the connection...bravo and "true that". And those typoons were not kind to the fleet either..the weather guessers did try to warn the staff. Some really beat up ships and lost souls...we were powerful that late in WWII, but not invincible against Mother Nature.
