A bit odd that after the SHOE BOMBER we weren't required to de-shoe but after an alleged liquid bomb plot we are. Good thinking.

I know every time I've flown after Mr. Shoe-Bomber, I had to de-shoe.

Technically it WAS "recommended". If you didn't they would swab your shoes with an oxy pad put it in a machine and you were free to go. It was voluntarily giving up your right to shoes that made you de-shoe.
